What is wingate (with tutorial)

wingate is a good proxy server software. The so-called proxy server allows all users of the LAN to access Internet resources through a single machine. WinGate is the originator of this type of software. It allows multiple LAN users to use their favorite WWW browser, Email, News, FTP, Telenet, etc., while providing a powerful firewall to prevent illegal users from logging into your internal network. It is highly recommended for Internet cafes and small businesses. (Download address: http://www.skycn.com/soft/1050.html)

Wingate tutorials

1, required equipment

1. The main computer, the installer Win95 or Win NT 3.51 or above (3.5 does not seem to be) and has a network card and a Modem (hereinafter referred to as the main computer)

2. One or several workstation computers It must be connected to the host computer through the network card. Currently, it cannot be connected by serial port or parallel port!

The following introduction is based on two Win95 environments. Before installing Wingate, you must determine two things:

1. The main computer can be used on the Internet!

2. The workstation can be connected to the main computer normally!

If you haven't determined the above two things, please fix it first, so as not to increase your troubles!

Second, the installation and setting of the main computer

1. Please first determine whether there is a driver on the network card with the card installed, and TCP/is bound to the driver. IP protocol.

2. Install WinGate, please unpack wg1306.zip, execute WGsetup.exe, fill in the Server Name in each server, such as SMTP Server may be ms1.hinet.net, News Server may be Netnews.hinet.net, etc., please fill in the settings given by your ISP. The settings on the left do not have to be changed. After pressing OK, the settings are completed!

3. Next, set TCP/IP. In the control panel---network, find TCP/IP (the one corresponding to the network card), press [Properties] to display its settings. The setting method is as follows: Br>

[IP address] IP address: Please customize one, or enter 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

[WINS configuration] Close WINS [Communication bar] Let it be empty

[Link] Unchanged [Advanced] Unchanged

[DNS Configuration] Select to start DNS, fill in the computer name in the main computer, such as: john domain to fill in your The domain name of the ISP, such as hiset.net. In the search order of the DNS server, fill in the IP address of your ISP's DNS Server, such as: 168.95.1192.1. After filling in, press [Add] domain suffix search order, the same domain name, such as inet.net, fill in and press [Add] to set it up and restart it!

You can put the shortcut of wingate.exe into [Startup], so that when you start dialing automatically every time you turn it on, you don't have to use the dialing function in WinGate to dial with other dialing programs. also may.

Three, workstation installation and settings

You do not need to install WinGate on the workstation, nor need to install dial-up network, just set TCP/IP.

1. Perform the same steps as the main computer and set the TCP/IP:

[IP address] IP address: Please customize one, or enter 192.168.0.2, note It cannot be the same as the address of the host computer. If there is more than one workstation, the IP of each workstation cannot be repeated! Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

[WINS Configuration] Close WINS [Communication Bar] Let it be empty

[Link] Unchanged [Advanced] Unchanged

[DNS Configuration] Select to start DNS, fill in the computer name in the main computer, such as: David (this computer name can not be the same as the main computer, need to be unique) the domain to make it empty. In the DNS server search order, fill in the IP of your main computer, such as 192.168.0.1, fill in the [Add] domain suffix search order, make it blank, select OK after setting, and then leave.

2. Modify the hosts file, please use the general text editor, find the hosts file in the Windows directory, add a line as follows: 192.168.0.1 gateway.

After the above settings are completed, the workstation can be considered as the most complete part, and you can start to test whether it can work. Open a DOS window and enter the ping gateway. If there is a response, congratulations, this means that the connection with the host computer is correct! If there is no response, re-check your settings for errors!

Fourth, further testing

Start the network dialing software on the main computer and connect directly to the Internet!

In the Dos window on your workstation, type ping ftp.microsoft.com. If you see the following message:

Pinging [aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd] with 32 bytes of dataDestination host unreachable Destination host unreachableDestination host unreachable Destination host unreachable (where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is represented as IP Address )

means that your workstation can connect to the DNS through the host computer, because ftp.microsoft.com is the Domain Name, and the returned information is the IP Address, which can be obtained. The message to the Destination Host unreachable is normal, don't worry about it! The main thing is to see if there is an IP Address in the first line.

So far, you can be sure that your settings are ok!
