Building an unlimited capacity mail server

email at home, I believe many friends will have no more than two or three? Next we will show you how to use a computer to set up a mail server.

One. Download and install WinMail

1) First of all, please have our protagonist WinMail debut, WinMail stands for "Winmai Server", it is a powerful, easy-mail server software. We can download the latest version of WinMail at http://www.magicwinmail.com/download.htm. The unregistered version is free to use for 30 days, supports 20 mailboxes, and the number of domain names is not limited. There are no other functional restrictions.

2) After downloading, we can directly run the installation file to install. WinMail installation process is similar to general software, but be careful not to use Chinese as the installation directory, otherwise it may cause the program to be abnormal. The following only describes some steps to be aware of, such as installing components, running methods, and setting the administrator's login password. The main components of WinMail are the server core and management tools. The server core pair mainly performs service functions such as SMTP, POP3, ADMIN, and HTTP. And management tools are mainly responsible for setting the mail system, such as setting system parameters, user management, domain management, etc., as shown

3) Run the main server Core There are two types: 1) Run as a system service and run as a separate program. Run as a system service. 2) Run in a separate program for all Win32 operating systems. During the installation process, if the program detects that the configuration file already exists, it will let you choose whether to overwrite the existing configuration file. Note that if you choose a good software upgrade, as shown below.

in the previous step, if you choose to overwrite the existing configuration file or first installation, the installer will allow you to Enter the system administrator password and the password of the system administrator's mailbox. Of course, it can be modified later, as shown below.

4) After the installation is complete, the administrator must perform some initialization settings on the system for the system to operate normally. When the server starts, it will automatically run the quick setup wizard if it finds that the domain name has not been set yet. We can use it to set up the mail server simply and quickly. Here we create an [email protected] email address for the following example, as shown below.

II. Download the peanut shell and register the domain name.

1) http://www.oray.net to download and install the client peanut shell. Then run the peanut shell software, click "Register Peanut Passport", and follow the prompts of the pop-up registration passport window to register. After registering the peanut passport, use the registered passport name and password to fill in the peanut shell software to log in.

2) Right click on "Free Domain Name" to register a free domain name. In this way, no matter how the IP address changes after the Internet, just remember the domain name and you can connect to the corresponding IP address, which is very convenient.

3) Follow the prompts to activate the free domain name peanut shell dynamic DNS service requested in the previous step. When the domain name is activated, the peanut shell software is already online. The free domain name we applied for has been bound to the current public IP address, and the Internet can directly access the current public IP address through the applied domain name. However, here we use the top-level domain name cicp.net for demonstration, because the top-level domain is much more memorable than the free domain name, and the price is not expensive (it is much more cost-effective than using the toll mailbox). As shown below.

4) Finally, we also need to add an MX record for the top-level domain. Open the webpage to the homepage of the peanut shell http://www.oray.net, and then log in to the console with the username and password of the peanut shell passport. After clicking "Domain Management", all the domain names registered in the passport will be listed on the right. Then we click on the "cicp.net" domain name on the right and the "Add Domain Name Record" button will appear. After clicking directly, we can see that there is already a subdomain of "cicp.net" under the domain name. Click "MX" in the subdomain to display a window. Because our computer does not have a fixed IP address in the public network, we enter "cicp.net" in the "mail server" and enter "10" in the "priority". As shown below.

III. Use the management tool to set

1) OK, now the domain name is also set. Before we officially test and send mail, we have to set up the mail server first. Launch the client management tool on the desktop, and the user can log in using the username (admin) and the password set at the time of installation.

2) After the management tool is successfully logged in, use System Settings -> System Service to check whether the system's SMTP, POP3, IMAP and other services are running normally. A green icon indicates that the service ran successfully. A red icon indicates that the service is stopped. As shown below.

If you find that services such as SMTP, POP3, ADMIN, HTTP, IMAP, or LDAP are not started successfully, use System Log -> SYSTEM" to view the startup information of the system. If the startup is unsuccessful, the port is usually occupied and cannot be started. The program that occupies the port is closed or the port is replaced and the related service is restarted. For example, the IIS SMTP service will be installed during the default installation of Windows 2000, which will cause the mail system SMTP service to fail to run. We stopped the IIS SMTP service and the mail system SMTP service could be restored.

3) Next we set up the mail domain and open "Domain Settings" -> "Domain Management". Here you can add a new domain name or edit an existing domain, as shown below. Finally, we can use "Users and Groups" -> "User Management" to add or remove mailboxes.

IV. After the transceiver test

All of these are set up, we will be able to send and receive Web-mail. Because WinMail uses 6080 as the web port number by default, we can open IE directly and enter http://IP address: 6080 to access the web mailbox, as shown below. Because the operation of the Web mode is exactly the same as the free mailboxes such as 163, we will not say much here. In addition, here we notice that the IP address of the machine can be seen in the lower right corner of the webpage. This will be used in the following article.

addition to using traditional Web to send and receive e-mail, but we can also use the popular mail client software (such as Outlook Express, outlook, Foxmail) to test . Take outlook Express as an example, let's explain how to set up the mail client software.

1) Open Outlook Express, click on “Account” in the menu “Tools”, and the following picture will pop up. In the pop-up "Internet Account" dialog box, click the "Add" button to select "Mail", as shown

2) into the "Internet Connection Wizard Fill in the user's name and click Next. Then fill in the email address of the added user in your mail system to the "Email Address".

3) preferably receives the mail server "POP3", and then enter the IP address of the machine inside the POP and SMTP servers. As for how to know the IP address, the article has already been mentioned above.

4) Finally enter the account name and password of the user in your mail system, click Next to complete. After

5) set up, we also need to modify the account properties. We can click "Tools" -> "Account" in the menu, select the account you want to set, and then click "Properties".

5) If the SMTP service mail system activated the "Send Authentication", you must select the "Server" tab inside the "outgoing mail server" in the "My server requires authentication" option. Then select "Use the same settings as the receiving server" to confirm.

6) Finally, we wrote an email with the title "WinMail Test !" in Outlook Express to the email address of 126, and then replied with a message titled "126.com Test Mail" from 126. Mail the server to test if the server is running normally.

Ok, so far, our mail server has been set up successfully!
