In-depth analysis of the knowledge of the three Unix servers

Unix server knowledge, we have already explained a lot of knowledge, this time, we analyze the IBM p series 680 server, Sun Enterprise 10000 server, SGI Origin 3000 server knowledge .

IBM p-series 680 servers

P-series 680 servers are IBM's most powerful symmetric multi-processor system Unix servers, handling many different key e-commerce applications (including Web serving and hosting) , ERP, SCM, CRM, etc.) is particularly good.

The microprocessor in the 680 uses silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology. This technology reduces current heating by applying an insulator to the chip circuit. The reduction in chip heat can not only increase the speed of operation, but also reduce the chance of running errors or system crashes.

680 is equipped with a CPU running frequency of 600MHz, each microprocessor has a buffer capacity of 16MB, a system memory capacity of 96GB, and an SMP configuration of up to four 6-channel processor modules.

Sun Enterprise 10000 Server

The Sun Enterprise 10000 runs under the Solaris operating environment for host-based or client/server applications such as online transaction processing, decision support systems, and data. It is an ideal general-purpose Unix server or data server for warehouses, communication services, or multimedia services.

The Sun E10000 was born out of CRAY's CS6400. It is the first high-end Unix server with hardware partition (Hard Partition) and the first Unix standalone to achieve 64-channel SMP calculations.

It uses Sun UltraSPARCII 400MHz processor, can be configured with up to 64 CPUs, maximum memory capacity is 64GB, can achieve up to 16 partitions (or domain), online disk storage capacity up to 64TB, with dynamic Reorganization features (which provide online service capabilities) and dynamic system domain features. By using the Gigaplane-XB interconnect at the heart of the system, the data bandwidth is up to 12.8GB per second.

SGI Origin 3000 Server

The SGI Origin 3000 high-performance Unix server is based on the SGI NUMAflex architecture, or SGI's new modular computing architecture or third-generation NUMA architecture. The SGI 3000 server can scale from the minimum configuration of two 64-bit MIPS RISC CPUs to a multi-processor system with shared storage of 512 CPUs. In addition, SGI's InfiniteReality3 graphics subsystem can also be integrated into the fabric.

The third generation NUMA server adopts modular design. The seven basic modules are CPU expansion module, disk storage expansion module, basic I/O module, PCI expansion module, router interconnection module, XIO expansion module and Graphics extension module.

Modular design makes system configuration more flexible, more cost-effective, and highly fault-tolerant and system-expandable, providing customers with reliable overall investment protection and superior performance.
