Since Microsoft's CD audio mode for CD-ROM drives in Windows XP is set to digital audio by default, if you do not have an analog audio output cable for the optical drive, it is likely to cause CDs to be played under Windows XP. The sound is only output from the sound card and cannot be output from the optical drive audio output hole. If you want to solve the problem, the steps are as follows:

Step 1

Right click on "My Computer". In the pop-up menu, select the "Properties" item to open the system properties window; click the "Hardware" tab, click the "Device Manager" button to open the Device Manager window;

Step 2

Open the CD-ROM sub-node, right click on the CD-ROM device, select "Properties" item in the pop-up menu, open the CD-ROM Properties window; click the "Properties" tab, and select the option "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device" Remove;

Step 3

Open "Windows Media Player" with the mouse and click "Start → Programs → Accessories → Entertainment". Click the "Tools" menu, select "Options", open the options window of the media player; click the "Devices" tab, select your CD-ROM device in the device list, and then click the "Properties" button to open the CD-ROM Properties window;

Step 4

Select “Analog” from the play options, and finally click the “OK” button to save and exit and restart the computer.
