Windows 7 Features: Security and Security - XPS Viewer

Sometimes you need to create an electronic document to share with others, but you don't want others to tamper with the document, but you want the print to always match the screen display. Typical examples include contracts, memos, resumes, press releases, and statements.

The XML Page Specification (XPS) can meet your needs. When you save a document as an .xps file, it remains in its original format, regardless of which program the document was created with. In Windows 7, you can create XPS documents, including Notepad and WordPad, in any program that can perform print operations. Once an XPS document is created, no one can change it.

The XPS Viewer feature in Windows 7 has been improved and is a companion tool for opening and managing XPS documents. It has a new, simplified look and a search and browse feature that's easier to use, with a new thumbnail view that can be used to scan long documents. You can digitally sign a document to verify its authenticity, and you can set permissions to restrict which users can view, copy, print, or sign the document.

The XPS Viewer makes it easier for users to quickly scan long XPS documents.
