First met Windows 7 WinFS file system

When everyone is happy to use the Windows 7 RC version, Microsoft has quietly released Windows 7 RC2. For the RC version, although the RC2 version is unlikely to show some "overwhelming" changes, in the process of the author's installation trial, I found that the WinFS file system has been quietly introduced: when selecting the system partition during the installation process, the default The partition format is WinFS, and it is no longer the original RC version of NTFS (of course we can also manually select the NTFS format).

WinFS is a new file system developed by Microsoft after NTFS. Compared with the NTFS file system, the WinFS file system has better search and search capabilities, which can reduce the time for the system to find files and improve the system's search ability. The WinFS file system supports hierarchical, relational, and object-oriented storage relationships (see figure). Data management is more flexible and manages files more efficiently. Moreover, we can easily transfer the data stored in the NTFS file system to the WinFS file system, so that after we upgrade from the old system to Windows 7, the original stored files can be managed as usual.

WinFS file system as a new generation file system, backward compatible with NTFS file system, if we upgrade to install Windows 7 system, the files stored in the original system can also be recognized by the WinFS file system. Although the WinFS file system sounds like a brand new file system, it is essentially NTFS6.0, and our commonly used XP and Vista use NTFS5.0, so backward compatibility is absolutely no problem. However, if we still set the file system to NTFS when installing Windows 7, then we will not be able to access the hard disk partition using the WinFS file system.

While Vista can also support the WinFS file system by downloading the plugin, but compared with the native support of Windows 7, it is not efficient, and the stability is not very good. Since Windows 7 and Vista use the same kernel, Microsoft introduced the WinFS file system as the default file system in the RC2 version. The obvious intention is to open the distance with Vista and guide consumers into the embrace of Windows 7. Change the issue of Vista market acceptance is not high. In particular, Windows 7 has decided to go public in the fourth quarter of this year, adding some extra features, which can better promote new products for Microsoft.
