Method one: Use the HP Printer Setup Wizard
If you purchased your printer before the release of Windows 8, the latest printer driver might not be available on the CD that came with your product; however, you can easily find and use the HP Printer Setup Wizard. Download the latest printer driver. "Printer Setup Wizard> is a tool that automatically finds the best Windows 8 drivers for your HP printer.
Note: The Printer Setup Wizard is not available for all HP printers, only for Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating systems.
The Printer Installation Wizard is for printers with a USB cable connected or a printer with a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network connection. If you want to connect the printer wirelessly, but you are not connected to a wireless network, you will need to temporarily connect the printer with a USB cable to run this wizard.
Follow these steps to download and install the HP Printer Installation Wizard.
Step 1: Download the HP Printer Installation Wizard
Click the following link: HP Printer Installation Wizard.
Ensure that your computer meets the system requirements and click “Download”.
Check to see if the "Security Alerts" dialog box is open, then choose one of the following methods to download the wizard.
If the "Security Alerts" dialog box opens
Open the "Security Alerts" dialog box, select one of the following methods to download the wizard.
Workaround 1: Run the utility
In the <quo;Security Warnings dialog box, click “Run”.
“Download Complete” After the dialog box opens, click “Run”, and then click “Run” in the <;Security Warning" dialog box.
Method 2: Save the utility
In the <quo;Security Warnings dialog box, click “Save”.
Open the “Save As" window, browse to the desktop, and click “Save”.
After completing the download, browse to the saved file and double-click the file to install the utility.
If the <quo;Security Warning” dialog is not open
1. Click on “Run” in the notification bar to download the software.
2. Click “ is “ in the "User Account Control" window.
When the wizard completes the installation, the wizard will open automatically.
Step 2: Run the HP Printer Installation Wizard
If the printer has not been started, press the power button to start it.
Connect your HP printer and computer with a USB cable (if you are not connected to a computer or network).
Please make sure your computer is connected to the internet. The wizard must access the internet in order to work properly.
Click on “Next” to launch the utility. The wizard displays a list of detected printers.
If the wizard detects more than one printer, select your HP printer from the list.
If your printer does not appear in the list, click “My printer is not displayed, and follow the on-screen instructions.
The wizard automatically displays the available drivers that are best for your HP printer.
If a full-featured print program is available, the wizard will detect it. Click “Next” to download and install the software. If full functionality is required, HP recommends installing a full-featured driver if it is available. Full-featured drivers provide full printer functionality. HP also provides utility software to help you get the most out of your printer.
If an operating system built-in (in-OS) driver is available, the wizard will show that the driver is installed. In addition, it provides a link to help you learn more about using the in-OS driver for your printer. The in-OS driver is the base driver that comes with your operating system. You do not need to download or install any software from HP.
If a Windows Update driver is available, the wizard will show that the driver is installed. In addition, it will provide a link to help you learn more about the use of the Windows Update driver. Windows Update will search the Windows Update website for the latest printer drivers.
If the driver on the website is newer than the driver in Windows, the computer will download and install the updated driver. Windows Update will do this automatically.
Option 2: Download and install the software from the HP website
Follow the steps below to download and install the driver from the HP website.
Open the printer.
Disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer (if connected). If the printer is connected to the network, stay connected.
Right-click this link: HP Customer Care Center, then click “Open in a new window”.
If prompted, type your printer model, click “Next”, then click “Driver”.
Ensure that the operating system is selected, then click “Next”.
Scroll down the page and click “Driver”.
Click the “Download” button and follow the on-screen instructions to save the software to your computer.
Open the folder where the software files are located (usually saved in the “Downloads folder), double-click the file, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
