Windows 8 builds healthier storage

When I was in college, I was exposed to more household-grade products. Really, I have never seen anything that damages the hard disk and data recovery. After work, I saw that there were occasional bad disks on the server and I had to find a replacement. Moreover, I have really seen the situation of spending a lot of money on professional data recovery vendors to recover hard drive data. Of course, these normal damages are mostly caused by the hard disk throughput of the server and the excessive number of reading and writing. In the work, I also learned from the case that the hard disk of a computer room caused the hard disk to be damaged in a few months. Scientific and reasonable, in line with quality standards, especially air circulation and cooling systems must be designed to achieve the standard.
The above is something I have experienced in terms of storage physical damage. Compared to physical damage, the file system on the disk can be logically damaged, that is, due to accidental power failure, program problems or other accidents. File corruption, disk logic failure, etc. For these logical damages, or accidental non-uniformity on the disk, we must be familiar with it. I wonder if you still remember the XP era, as long as the computer unexpectedly loses power, you will see that it will automatically scan the disk after waiting for ten seconds. The prompt, and the more files, the longer the scan takes. Many people can't stand the long-term disk detection time, and once again deliberately restart, then press any key on the keyboard to skip the disk check at the next startup.
Starting with Windows Vista, Windows introduced a file system feature called "Online Self-Healing". The NTFS file system itself has a self-healing design, and some types of corruption during system operation can be fixed by the system without waiting for the next reboot. In Windows 8, this feature has been enhanced and improved, and the number of problems that can be self-healing has increased, so the chances of running chkdsk are greatly reduced. Now, I believe that you have almost never seen an unexpected power failure. When you restart your computer, you will be asked to check the disk. (It can also be seen from here that why, no matter how bad Vista sells, I have repeatedly stressed that Vista has a very important meaning in different articles.)
In addition to online self-healing and its entry, in fact, Windows 8 More efforts have been made to stabilize the disk and file system:
1. Online verification
Sometimes, the disk is not really damaged, but intermittent, sporadic due to memory problems. "corruption", in which case the new Spot Verifier service can identify this issue. When a potentially unhealthy disk state is detected and the online self-healing is unsuccessful, the file system driver can trigger the service to run and confirm if it is a true disk corruption.

2. Online Identification and Recording
When online verification confirms that this is a disk problem, Windows 8 will be at the appropriate time (such as when the computer is idle) and when necessary (such as finding file system corruption). The online file system scan background task is performed through maintenance tasks, and all scanned problems are confirmed and recorded by the system for subsequent correction.
3. Fast and Accurate Correction
For these errors that you have to fix offline, the Chkdsk utility will fix the volume when you unmount the volume, then this "fast precision correction" feature can greatly Reduce the time it takes to repair offline. For non-system volumes, close all currently open file handles; for system volumes, this offline repair is similar to the disk overhaul process during reboots like the XP era, but because the online identification and logging features have been incorrect And the damage location is recorded. At this time, the offline repair is a very accurate fixed-point repair process. How much is repaired, where is the repair, and often takes only a few seconds, which greatly helps the user to reduce the waiting time for the disk repair. For a 100 GB hard disk partition, a few seconds vs. tens of minutes or even hours is still very impressive.
4. Better manageability
The health of the disk volume can be displayed in the drive properties in the Explorer and under the Maintenance column of the Operations Center.

And, with the fsutil command, we can see support for these new disk features. (My C drive is the system drive)

By looking at the help of chkdsk, we can see that the tool also provides new parameter switches in conjunction with the stability of the new disk volume.

In fact, it is relatively simple to summarize. Now the control of disk health on Windows 8 can be summarized by the following chart:
