Micro-Core MinWin or Promote in Windows 8

At the end of 2008, when Windows Vista was released and Waterloo and Windows 7 were in the pipeline, there was a so-called lite version of the mini Windows system core "MinWin". According to Microsoft's later explanation, Windows 7 actually used this technology, but we have never heard of it.

MinWin can be said to be a new attempt by Microsoft to minimize the core of Windows by minimizing all dependencies. Of course, it is not the Windows kernel (Kernel), Windows 7 is not, Windows Not on 8.

There are only about one hundred files mentioned in the Windows 7 development version of MinWin. In the latest leaked version of Windows 8, the number of such files has suddenly increased to 6,000, and it involves the Windows system kernel. File system driver, basic system service, DNS/DHCP client, partition management, TCP/IP driver, basic startup file (winload.exe, etc.), which is all necessary files for starting and running with Windows system.

And the total size of 161 files with the name MinWin in all the names is only about 20MB, which is smaller than the 25MB in the Windows 7 era.

As such, Windows 8 is likely to be the first operating system to fully deploy and use MinWin, but this is only a guess, and where MinWin has to look at Microsoft's plans. In any case, we have seen Microsoft's efforts in operating system development, especially in the face of the rise of new forms of computing devices such as smartphones and tablets.
