How to quickly turn on and off the automatic maintenance function of Win10/Win8.1?

Automatic maintenance is a new function added in Win8/Win8.1. This function is continued in Win10. Windows will be based on your daily plan. Scheduled maintenance tasks, including software updates, security scans, system diagnostics, etc., are automatically run when you use your computer. If you are using a computer at the time of booking or if the maintenance schedule of the system lags behind the scheduled schedule, then the system will run automatic maintenance the next time your computer is idle.

The automatic maintenance function is designed to perform maintenance tasks in the background without affecting the user's use of the computer, and generally works well. But sometimes there are some problems, such as the blue screen or the system stuck in the idle state. If you happen to encounter such a problem, you may try to turn off the automatic maintenance to see if the problem can be solved.

Microsoft does not provide the option to turn off automatic maintenance in the control panel or settings, you need to modify the registry to achieve. The detailed operation process is as follows:

Note: Due to the need to modify the registry, it is recommended to follow the "Windows 10 how to create restore points and system restore before the operation? Create a restore point for your system to restore when an error occurs.

1, press Win+R to open the run, enter regedit and press Enter to open the registry editor;

2, expand the following registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\ Schedule\\Maintenance

3. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named MaintenanceDisabled on the right side;

4, double-click the new value MaintenanceDisabled, and change its value to 1, save it. You can turn off automatic maintenance.

5, restart the system.

If you want to re-enable automatic maintenance, just change MaintenanceDisabled to 0 or delete the key.
