Windows 8 Great Tragedy

Computer Store News: HWBot.org is an authoritative platform that overclockers and enthusiasts are very familiar with. Achievement certification and competitive competitions are very lively. Today, HWBot officially announced a shocking news: from now on, it will no longer accept the performance certification under the Windows8 system, and the relevant certifications will be nullified.

HWBot explained that Windows 8 uses Real-Time Clock/RTC to cause differences in the way the operating system and test software are handled. The scores cannot be fully trusted. It is easy to fake, especially when overclocking and down-clocking.

RTC is a computer clock (in most cases, an integrated circuit) used to track current time and is widely used in various electronic devices such as PCs, servers, and embedded systems. Everything that needs to maintain precise time is inseparable from it.

Compared to Win7 and other previous systems, Microsoft changed the time measurement method in Win8 to be compatible with embedded systems and inexpensive PCs without RTC.

For most test software, RTC is used as a reference clock when executing test code. By synchronizing with the RTC, the test software knows the exact time and then uses it to calculate system performance.

The problem is that when you overclock or downclock in Windows 8, the RTC will change, and you lose the reference value, and any test software is no exception.

HWBot also gave a very detailed example: the FSB (reference frequency) of a Haswell processor is reduced from 130MHz to 122MHz (about 6%), and the multiplier is 32x, 34x, respectively. The frequency is 4160MHz, the results are very different:

See? Almost all test software has a performance improvement of around 6%, and the latest 3DMark is no exception.

In Windows 7, most test software is not affected by this "overclocking".

In another example, HWBot reduced the FSB by 6%. As a result, after only 5 minutes, the Windows system time was 18 seconds slower than the real time! If you overclock 4%, the Windows system time will be 3 seconds after two minutes!

Therefore, HWBot decided to block Windows 8 system, specific measures include:

1, shielding any abnormal Windows 8 system test scores

2, shielding any Windows 8 system test Record, even if these results seem normal

Microsoft is unlikely to change the Windows 8 system design for this, so I am afraid there is no solution to this problem, the friends of the overclocking record will temporarily return to Windows. 7 Okay.
