Why redesign the system interface?

Beijing time on December 16th news, according to foreign media reports, Microsoft's new Windows director Julie Lal Julie Larson-Green explains why it is necessary to redesign the basic interface of this popular operating system.
Windows 8 has a large number of fans and a large number of opponents. Microsoft believes that it is time to design a new look for this product with more than 1.2 billion users. As the new director of the Windows product development department, Julie Larsen-Green recently talked about the reasons for the major changes in the latest version of Windows.
Green strongly promoted the new startup interface for Windows 8, she said, in the past, Windows users will work on desktop computers. According to her point of view, people usually open a window, then put it aside, and then open another window. However, in Windows 8, all the applications and windows you want to launch can be seen through Live Tiles.
“You don't need to move a lot of small stones to see what's underneath, but you only need to see which applications are running through a dashboard-like thing. & rdquo; Green said, "It is more convenient for you to complete the task. “
As we all know, Windows 8 was designed with the touch screen in mind. Green thinks this is “the natural way of interaction”. After the appearance of touch screen devices, even people who use the mouse and keyboard on ordinary desktop computers find themselves tending to reach out and try to move things on the screen with their fingers.
According to her point of view, the touch screen represents the future direction. Although she admits that there will always be some PCs without a touch screen, she believes that most computers will have touch functionality. “We found that computers with touch capabilities are currently the fastest-selling products. & rdquo;She said, & ldquo; I can't believe a computer without touch function. Once you have experienced the touch function, you will have a hard time turning back. & rdquo;
Windows 8 has been trying to please everyone, which makes it criticized. The boot screen environment is more suitable for touch screen devices, but desktop computers with similar environments are still very easy to operate with the mouse and keyboard.
Green said that Microsoft intends to choose to provide two operating environments in the new operating system. The mouse will always be easier to use than your finger, and the physical keyboard will always be easier to use than the on-screen keyboard. However, she feels that people will eventually adapt to this new way of working.
& ldquo; We don't want you to make a choice. & rdquo; She said, & ldquo; Some people say that it makes people feel uncomfortable. However, as time goes by, we will gradually lose this voice. This is just a process of adapting to different things. ”
How long does it take for people to adapt to Windows 8? Microsoft implemented a program called Living with Windows, in which it took months to observe how people use the new operating system at home. Some people quickly adapted to it, while others took two to two weeks to adapt to it, Green said.
So, how can people adapt to Windows 8? In order to get an answer, Microsoft obtained relevant user data through its “Customer Experience Improvement” program. So far, the company has been encouraged by these data.
“ As we can see from our data, more than 90% of users found its charm in the first stage. & rdquo; Green said, "Even if you are a desktop user, after six weeks, you will start to use more of the new features of this operating system." Of course, as the new head of Windows development, Green not only needs to explain, but also needs to defend Microsoft's choices in Windows 8. As PC sales decline and tablet sales increase, Microsoft naturally feels the need to adapt its familiar interface to adapt to the new world.
Is Microsoft doing the same on Windows 8? This is a question that can be discussed. But the bigger question is: Will Microsoft's loyal users eventually choose this new, completely different Windows 8, or will they stick to their familiar Windows 7 and previous versions?
