First, choose Windows NT Server grounds

4.0 1. Windows 2000 although the installation is relatively simple, but it is indeed a large consumption of resources, I have tried, even standard installation occupies 600MB hard disk space. It takes more than two minutes to boot on a PIII 450, 96MB RAM, IBM 13.5GB (7200rps, 2MB Cache) machine.

2. Windows NT 4.0 Server and Workstation have two versions, Workstation installation is relatively simple, this article will not discuss, discuss only installation methods Server here. Others, such as Windows NT

recommended configurations, hardware compatibility testing, preparation and other pre-installed, many articles have been introduced, this will not repeat.

Second, when the relevant parameters

install Windows NT, use Winnt.exe file, use the Windows 98 Setup.exe different. It should be noted that Windows NT has the following optional parameters:

/b Installation of boot floppy disk is not installed

/c Does not check free space when installing boot floppy disk
< BR> /f Do not verify copy, copy file from boot floppy disk

/o Generate boot floppy disk

/t Specifies the drive containing the temporary installation files

/u Specifies unattended operation and optional script files
< BR> Third, the installation method

1.CD-ROM mounted

using this method of installation is to be noted that the use of the computer environment, the operating system is DOS, Windows 95, or 98.

(1) operating system is DOS. It should be noted that the hard disk space is sufficient, it should be greater than 210MB, lower than this value, there will be insufficient space during the installation to the last moment. The boot partition is FAT16. Otherwise, repartition, modify the batch, and mount the CD-ROM drive.

(2) the current system is Windows 98. Note that the boot partition is FAT16 and the hard disk space is greater than 210MB. In the “Start→Run” menu, enter F:\\I386\\Winnt/b and follow the prompts to install.

2. installation diskette or floppy-mounted addition

Windows NT installation CD-ROM disks, and further comprising three floppy disk, a flexible disk using these installation Windows NT, the hard drive does not require There is an operating system on it. This method is most suitable for bare metal with Windows NT only. It does not need to install DOS or Windows operating system. However, if this machine is to install another operating system, such as Windows, it will no longer apply.

How to use: After starting the computer with a floppy disk, follow the prompts. If the three floppy disks are damaged, you can also regenerate them using the Windows NT CD-ROM installation disk by Winnt/ox.

In addition, to speed up the installation, you can install the Windows NT file copied from a CD-ROM to a directory on your hard take way from the hard disk installation, such as: D: \\ i386 \\ Winnt /b.

3. Network Installation

To install Windows NT to multiple computers in a network, a network installation is probably the best way. According to the author's experience, this is also the fastest installation method. Usually, using CD-ROM or copying files to the hard disk for installation, it usually takes 40 minutes to an hour, using network installation method, it can be completed in 20 minutes (10M network). Using this method should be noted:

(1) computer must first connect to the network, there are Windows NT installation files on a computer, and the directory containing the shared files.

(2) If the network already exists in Windows NT servers, to install the Windows NT computer does not necessarily have to be connected to the network, the installation can generate network installation floppy disk, floppy disk connected to the network and then use on the server.

(3) if you have connected to the network or simply choose to use the Windows NT installation, or do not want to file server disk space for installation files may be selected from a shared drive installed in the network.

4. Unattended Installation

To install Windows NT to a large number of computers, although the available network installation to speed installation, however, you still have to wait for a response installer tips. The unattended installation method allows the installation to be completed without any prompts from the installer when installing Windows NT.

Use the Unattend.txt file on the Windows NT installation CD-ROM to allow you to install Windows NT with a simple configuration by using the /u parameter after Winnt, such as E:\\i386> Winnt/b/u:c:\\Unattend.txt.
