The introduction to Hyper-V does not say much, there is a lot of information on the network, and the main purpose of this blog post is to share how to use the difference in the process of using Hyper-V. The disk and SYSPREP function build multiple Windows Server 2008 installations.

When signing a cost, when you learn about a new technology or product, you will choose to set up an experimental environment in the virtual machine before you deploy it to the production environment. But how to build it quickly? How to save disk space?

Speaking of this, I have to say Hyper-V's differential disk technology. This method is to choose a virtual machine system (GUEST OS) and make related settings, such as desktop. Then use this system as a template (strictly speaking, the hard disk after the installation of the virtual machine system is the master disk) to establish a difference disk and assign the difference disk to the new virtual machine for use. When you use the new virtual machine, it will still boot the system with Windows 2008 in the master disk, but any changes made in this system will be saved in the difference disk without changing the internal disk. content. This not only creates a new system, but also saves disk space. This is directly linked to MONEY, not to mention saving time is also saving MONEY!

Differential disk technology brings a problem while saving hard disk space, because the new system based on the master disk has the same SID. This will cause problems in the experimental environment. Fortunately, after Windows 2008 is installed, the SYSPREP tool (you can also use the NEWSID.EXE tool) is included in the system. By changing the SID of the newly derived system, these problems are no longer a problem.

First, use the difference disk to install a new Windows 2008 system

This chapter mainly describes how to use the differential disk technology Newly installed Windows 2008 system, note that you have already used Hyper-V to install a new Windows 2008 virtual machine system, and named it WIN2K8-BASE, and use this as the master disk.

1. Open HYPER-V Manager, select rickyfang in the right control panel (depend on the installation, please distinguish), right-click----hard disk. (Figure 1)

2. In the pop-up window, select "Difference", and the next step: (Figure 2)

3, in " Specify the name and location " interface, select the name and location of the virtual hard disk file, note that this is the new hard disk file, not the master disk. And the next step: (Figure 3)

4, in the "configure disk" interface, browse to the disk where the established WINDOWS 2008 virtual machine is located, as the parent hard disk, that is The so-called master disk. Then, click "Complete". (Figure 4)


5, open the HYPER-V manager, select rickyfang in the right control panel (depending on the installation, please distinguish), right-click---- Virtual machine: (Figure 5)

6. In the "specify name and location" interface, store the virtual machine in another location" in the "name" and " Enter or select the appropriate content. And the next step: (Figure 6)

7, in the "allocation memory" interface, keep the default 512MB memory, in the virtual machine, although WINDOWS 2008 is more memory, but 512MB also Enough, if you run some big applications like SQL, add it again. And the next step.

8. In the "Configure Network" interface, select the previously defined virtual network connection. There are two types defined in my Hyper-V virtual network. One is INTERNET, which is NAT, here. Feel free to choose one like INTERNET. And the next step.

9. In the "Connect Virtual Hard Disk" interface, uncheck the default "Create Virtual Hard Disk" front checkmark. And enable "Use an existing virtual hard disk" and browse to the location of the previously created virtual disk (this virtual hard disk file is the one you just created with the master disk). Second, use Windows 2008's own SYSPREP to change the SID

After the above operation, the actual virtual machine system has been built, can be managed in Hyper-V The virtual machine console on the right side sees win2k8-ts running.

But how do you log in and use it? Also need to select this win2k8-ts, right-click. You can pop up a separate window and use it just like VPC2007.

1. After entering the newly built operating system, open c:\\windows\\system32\\sysprep, you can see the sysprep.exe executable program, double-click it. (Figure 8)

2. In the pop-up "System Preparation Tool 3.14" window, set the figure as shown. It can be. It will perform some operations and will restart the system in a few minutes, so the virtual machine system with the new SID number is ready: (Figure 9)

3. After the system restarts, you need to select Manually obsolete two operations:

A, in the "Setting Windows" interface, just after the new installation of Windows, let you choose "country or region", "time and currency", " ; keyboard layout ". Keep the default and you can do so.

B. In the "type computer name" interface, fill in the computer name you want. And click Start.
