Under Vista, when encountering an unknown file type, the default setting is to provide you with a range of installed programs to choose from, and in most cases, these programs are not what we need.
For example, when we want to open a conf file in Notepad, we need to double-click - select Program - OK - Select Notepad - OK from the list of installed programs. Let's simplify this by modifying the registry.
1.Win+R running Regedit
2. Directed to the following item:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\\*\\shell (note the middle *)
3. Right-click shell - create a new item named Open with Notepad
4. Create a new item under it named command
5. Double-click the Default key on the right and enter
notepad.exe %1
