Sleep option is not available in Vista

A friend told me that he wanted to use the Hibernate feature on Windows Vista to stand by, but found that the Hibernate option was not available in the Power Options menu of the Start menu. Also, the "Hibernate" option was not found in the "Close Windows" dialog. Does his computer not support the sleep function?

After analysis, I found that there are several reasons for this problem:

1. The hibernation file cleanup program has been removed using the Disk Cleanup utility.
2, the computer does not support the sleep function.
3, the sleep function is disabled.
4, enabled the "hybrid sleep" function. When the user selects the Sleep option in any of the power options menus, the Hybrid Sleep feature puts the computer to sleep and generates a hibernation file. Therefore, if Hybrid Sleep is enabled, Hibernate will not appear as a power option.

First, how can I know that my computer does not support the sleep function? You can use the following steps to view:

1. Click Start, locate Command Prompt in Attachments, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Manage Run as a member." (If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or click Continue.)

2. At the command prompt, type powercfg /a.

The PowerCfg tool will generate output similar to the following:

Second, if the computer can support hibernation, how can it be enabled?

You can use the PowerCfg command line tool to enable hibernation. To do this, follow the steps below.

1. Click Start, locate Command Prompt in Attachments, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. (If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click Continue.)

2. At the command prompt, type powercfg /hibernate on. You can re-enable hibernation.
