How to change the serial number of Windows Vista operating system

Windows Vista uses the product serial number—or key, Product Key, CD Key, and future Volume License Key (VLK) for large customers to determine if it is genuine, only the correct sequence. No. can activate Windows Vista, otherwise Windows Vista can only be used in reduced mode.

In some cases, when we install Windows Vista, we may enter the wrong serial number due to operational errors or other reasons, which may not be verified by Windows and cannot be activated. So, at this time, do we need to reinstall Windows Vista with the correct serial number?

The answer is no, we can change the serial number of the product used in the system after installing Windows Vista, it will not affect the normal use of the system.
Change the Windows Vista serial number in the graphical interface

This is the most common and convenient way. We can change the product serial number in the system properties page of Windows Vista.

To open the system property page, you can do the following:

  • Right click on the "Computer" icon on the desktop and select "Properties";
  • Click "Start" => Control Panel=>System (when the control panel uses the classic view);
  • Click Start => Control Panel=>System and Maintenance=> System" (when the control panel uses the category view);

    The UAC function item marked with a small shield can be seen in the "Windows Activation" item at the bottom of the system property page. "Change product key (K)", click on it and enter the correct serial number (25 digits).

    Note: For Windows Vista that has entered the reduced mode, such as Windows Vista RTM, which exceeds the test period, the function item that appears here is “Re-enter the product key”, which implements the function. Same as "Change Product Key"
    .
    Using the command line to change the Windows Vista serial number

    For advanced users, it may be more desirable to use the command line to change the Windows Vista serial number - in order to show the technical level!
