Regaining space from Windows Vista system recovery

Since the Windows Me era, Windows system restore function has not been caught by users, not only takes up a lot of space and the effect is not good, especially the system restore in Windows Vista, Using hard disk space is even more horrible (I have seen it eat 30GB of space in 4 days). Experienced users will usually disable System Restore, but here we will introduce two methods, one is to clean up the restore point, the other is to completely shut down Windows Vista system restore (not recommended).

Usually we use this method to clean up only the restore points and not terminate the system restore.

1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

2. Select "Files for all users on this computer" in the dialog box.

3. If UAP jumps out, click "Continue".

4, it will let you choose which disk to scan, pick a Windows Vista installation disk and click OK.

5. The Disk Cleaner scans the disk and gives a list.

6. Click the "More Actions" tab.

7. In "System Restore", click the "Clean..." button.

8. When asked "Delete all restore points?", click "Delete".

9. Close the disk cleanup window.

Looking at the Windows disk usage, there will be surprises.

If you really lose confidence in Windows Vista system restore and want to get rid of the roots, you can do so.

1. Click Start, right click on My Computer, Properties.

2. Select "Advanced System Settings".

3. If UAP jumps out, click "Continue".

4. In the System Properties window, click the System Protection tab.

5. In the "Available Disks", remove the existing hooks.

6. When asked "Do you want to turn off system restore?", click "Close System Restore".

7. Click OK to close the System Properties window.

8. Close the "System" window.

Although it's very simple, it is similar to XP, but Vista's operation is a bit different than XP. System Restore may calculate the restore space in proportion, so there will be no disk tiger at the beginning of the article on the small hard disk.

Note: This article only introduces a method, but I do not recommend that you turn off system restore. In fact, Vista's system restore is much better than XP.
