Vista Tips: Using Disk Manager to Adjust Hard Disk Partition

In Windows systems prior to Vista, such as Windows XP, once the partition is set up, it is very difficult to change the size, or re-partition, which requires backing up all the hard disks. Personal data, a slight omission may cause irreparable damage; or use third-party disk management tools, such as Partition Magic, but in many cases, such tools and Windows systems are not so tacit, especially in For example, the processing of dynamic volumes, Chinese directories and file names, and NTFS partition permissions.
Windows Vista has made a useful improvement in this area: the system integrated disk management unit can dynamically adjust the size of the hard disk partition, although it is not functionally comparable to third-party disk management programs such as Partition Magic. The close integration with the system itself will undoubtedly make users feel more at ease in use.
Windows Disk Management console in Windows Vista, except for Windows XP, which allows users to create and format partitions and volumes, assign drive letters, etc., and some other advanced features may be supported in some versions. In addition to the management of fault-tolerant volumes, the newly added resizing partition function allows users to split hard disk partitions as needed to free up more unallocated space. It can also extend hard disk partitions and incorporate unallocated space on disks into existing ones. In the partition; of course, you can also use the combination of the two, that is, some hard disk space is adjusted from a wealthy partition to a tighter partition. Enter Disk Manager
To enter Disk Manager, the operation method is the same as that in Windows XP. There are two main methods: right click on “Computer” on the desktop, select “Manage” in the pop-up menu, and then on the computer. In the management, select the disk management unit to open the "Control Panel" => "Administrative Tools" => Computer Management, you can also enter the Disk Manager to use the Disk Manager to split the hard disk partition.
Many times, the initial partition of the hard disk is inevitable There will be cases of poor consideration. In actual applications, the size of the partition needs to be adjusted. For example, if the C disk space is not enough, but the D disk allocates too much space, as mentioned above, there is no need to re-partition the disk in Windows Vista. , but can be adjusted through the disk management tool.
For disks with allocated space, to adjust, first release some hard disk space, that is, first partition a disk partition with rich space, so that unpartitioned space appears on the disk.
To partition the hard disk partition, the operation is not complicated
Select the disk partition to be reduced, right click, and "Shrink Volume" in the pop-up menu;

In the pop-up dialog box, you can see the size of the current partition, the size of the space that can be split, and the size of the partition after partitioning. Enter the size of the disk space you want to split, and then press Split. (Shrink)"

After the operation of dividing the hard disk partition is completed, you can see the unallocated space where the set value appears on the disk.

Using Disk Manager to expand partitions

Similarly, to extend a partition, the operation is similar to splitting a hard disk partition: first select the disk partition to be expanded, right click , select "Extend Volume" in the pop-up menu. This will launch the Disk Expansion Wizard and click "Next" to enter the Settings dialog. Here you can select the hard disk to be operated (Note: the example in the figure is a single hard disk setting), enter the size of the space to be expanded, and click Next to complete the setting.
Note: If the partition to be expanded is a boot partition or a system partition, you can only select the spatial extent adjacent to the partition.

After the operation is completed, you can see that the hard disk space has become larger.

Create a partition using Disk Manager
If there is unallocated free space on the hard disk, you can create a new partition here, which is completely different from Windows XP. Similarly, right click on the unallocated space, select the partition format to be created, and so on, and will not repeat them.

It can be seen from the above that with the disk management tool in Windows Vista, it is very easy to adjust the partition, which is also the way for Microsoft to improve the convenience of Windows Vista operation. One of the efforts.
The last thing to remind is that it is always risky to operate on disk partitions. Therefore, before adjusting the partition, remember to back up important files to avoid loss.
