Method 1: Repair Internet Explorer 6.0
Perform the following steps to fix Internet Explorer 6.0:
1. Use system file check tool to scan computer (computer (computer )) All write-protected files:
a. Click Start -> Run; pop-up run text box;
b. Type sfc /scannow in the Open: field and click OK. At this point you may be prompted to insert the Windows XP installation disc.
2. Open a new Internet Explorer browser window and determine if the issue has been resolved. If the issue has been resolved, skip the following steps. If the issue is not resolved, proceed to the next step.
3. Perform Windows XP online upgrade, or Windows XP repair.
Method 2: Allow the operating system to allow Internet Explorer 6.0 to be installed by modifying the registry. Note: The following procedure includes information about editing the Windows registry. Improper use of the Registry Editor may result in more serious errors and must be reinstalled to resolve the issue. You need to back up the registry file before performing the following steps. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.
Execute the following steps to edit the registry:
1. Click Start -> Run; the Run text box pops up.
2. Type regedit in the Open: field and click OK.
3. Perform Windows XP online upgrade, or Windows XP repair.
4. Locate the correct registry subkey, then right click on the IsInstalled(REG_DWORD) key and click Modify to reinstall the Internet Explorer 6 browser component in the Windows XP operating system, using the following registry key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Active Setup/Installed Components/
5. Change the value data from 1 to 0.
6. Click OK.
7. Exit the Registry Editor and download and install Internet Explorer 6.
