Method of using the system configuration utility under WinXP system

The system configuration utility of Windows system, also known as MSConfig, is a utility for managing system startup items and system services, which can be used to solve and solve the problem of Windows system booting. Various faults and problems that arise. How does the WinXP system use the system configuration utility? Let me talk about the method of using the system configuration utility under WinXP system.

The method is as follows:

First, open the system configuration utility:

Click “Start-Run”Enter“msconfig”Enter or click “OK"> can start the system configuration utility, as shown below:

Second, the main tabs and usage:

1, "General" & rdquo; tab

Windows loads all drivers and default system services at normal startup (by default), but sometimes due to device driver corruption or installation errors; or system service failure, it may cause startup problems (not impossible) Start), then you can use the other startup modes listed under this tab to test the problem. Click the “General” option and there are three options under “Startup Selection”:

(1) “Normal Startup : This option is selected by default;

(2) “ Diagnostic Startup: Diagnostic startup means that only basic device drivers, such as graphics drivers, are not loaded when the system is booted, and devices such as modems and network cards are not loaded. Services are only some of the services necessary for the system. At this time, the system is the cleanest. If there is no problem with the startup, you can load the device and service in turn to determine where the problem is. This startup mode helps us quickly find the cause of the startup failure and determine whether it is a hardware failure.

(3) & ldquo; Selective Start & rdquo;: Follow the prompts to tick the project you need to start, or the startup project you don't need, you can also start or disable some programs in a project. The five projects are: System.ini Win.ini Load system service load startup item Boot.ini

as shown below:

2, SYSTEM.INI tab and WIN.INI tab

System.ini contains information about the entire system and is a file that stores important configuration information needed for Windows startup. Win.ini controls the overview of the Windows user window environment (such as window border width, loading system fonts, etc.). Through Msconfig, you can quickly view and edit these two INI files. For example, click the “System.ini” file in the main interface to see the details of the file. If you want to disable the loading of an option, just select the target. Click “Disable” Same; after selecting the target, click “Edit” to edit the project (click the backspace key to delete the project), as shown below: (WIN.INI Tab operation is similar)

3, BOOT.INI tab

Boot.ini is a parameter command provided when booting multiple systems. These startup parameters can get different startup effects. . Boot.ini loads the /fastdetect parameter by default, which means that the serial port and parallel port are not checked at startup. In fact, we can change to other parameters. When changing, first select the system list that needs to be changed in “Boot.ini”, then change the parameter /fastdetect in the system to the corresponding parameter value. Starting the system later will load some setup information or screens. To do this, switch to the “Boot.ini” tab, first select the item you want to change, and then tick the desired startup parameter at the bottom of the “Startup Options” option. Several common parameters are described here.

/SAFEBOOT: Secure boot, only the drivers and services in HKLM\\System\\CurrentControlSetControl\\SafeBoot are started, followed by four parameters: Minimal and Network allow the system to be started under network connection; Dsrepair requires the system to backup from the system The device is loaded into the Active Directory settings; Minimal (AlternateShell), which allows the system to load the SHELL program specified by HKLM\\System\\CurrentControlSetSafeBoot\\AlternateShell instead of the default Explorer.

/NOGUIBOOT: Do not load the VGA driver, it will not display the blue screen information during the boot process and failure.

/BOOTLOG: Write the log to the Nnbtlog.txt file.

/BASEVIDEO: Starts using standard VGA mode, which is mainly used when the display driver fails.

/SOS: Display the name of the driver when it is called. It is better to use it when it cannot be started due to a driver problem.

4. Service Tab

A service is an application type that runs in the background and is similar to a UNIX background application. Service applications typically provide users with features such as client/server applications, web servers, database servers, and other server-based applications, both locally and over the network.

You can set up services in the “Control Panel"> Manage”---"Service"; Start, Stop, Pause, Resume, or Disable Services on Remote and Local Computers . To start, stop, pause, restart, or disable a service, you must have the appropriate permissions.

In the system configuration utility, you can determine whether the service is faulty by selecting or canceling the service name to start or stop a service, as shown below:

5. Startup tab < Br>

Startup means the program item loaded at system startup. You can start or stop a program by selecting or canceling the program name to determine whether the system is faulty or conflicting, as shown below:

6. Extracting missing system files from the installation CD

Win XP sometimes causes system file loss due to installation/uninstallation of software or misoperation. Generally important system files can be extracted again on the system installation CD.

Switch to the "General" tab and click on the "Expand File" button, then enter the name of the file you want to restore (ie fill in the missing file) in the pop-up window. Restore from (click “ browse from ”, select the installation CD path), save the file to (select the save file path), and finally click “ expand & rdquo;, the system will automatically extract the associated .CAB file, will specify Copy the system files from the installation CD to the computer, as shown below:

7, start the system restore

<; general & rdquo; tab in the "start system restore" button, can Directly perform the system restore operation, which is the same as the sequence of the "start" "start”-“program"""attachment"-“system tool”-“system restore" :

Reminder: SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, BOOT.INI and service tabs are not recommended to adjust their settings. Improper settings may affect the normal startup of your computer. Please operate carefully.

The method of using the system configuration utility under WinXP system will be introduced to you in detail. If you still don't know how to use the system configuration utility, you can refer to the above method, I hope to help you!
