WindowsXP SP2 Top Ten Common Faults and Solutions:

Question 1: After I install SP2 successfully, I always find it in the taskbar when I boot. Show a red shield. Click to enter the prompt "virus protection is not enabled", I installed Norton Security SWAT 2004! what happened? But these two days have disappeared mysteriously! Later, I felt that Norton's own firewall was better. I turned off the firewall that comes with Windows in the options, but there is a red shield in the taskbar. What should I do?

A: In SP2, Microsoft joined a "security center" console, which is mainly to detect the status of virus protection, firewall, and automatic update in the system. If it is not detected, a red shield will automatically pop up at boot to indicate a warning. In fact, Windows SP2 can't accurately detect most anti-virus software, even if you have it installed correctly! In fact, you just need to enter the "Control Panel", click "Recommended" under "Virus Protection", check "I have installed anti-virus program and monitor the status of myself", will not remind you the next time you turn it on. Now, major anti-virus software vendors have improved compatibility with SP2, as long as they are upgraded to the latest version. Your "mysterious disappearance" is actually the software itself is automatically upgraded and updated. The other firewall problem can be referred to the "virus protection" method above, of course, in the "firewall" tab. Alternatively, you can find the Security Center service Security Center from the Control Panel→Administrative Tools→Services window and deactivate it.

Question 2: I am using ADSL virtual dial-up Internet, no IP is set. After installing SP2, every time you open ADSL Modem, the system will automatically find the IP address, naturally it will fail every time, and the dialog box for renewing IP appears. And the local connection always has a yellow exclamation mark, showing "restricted or no connection", although it does not affect the dialing, but it does not feel good, how can I prohibit this problem?

A: This problem stems from the fact that the network card does not have a fixed IP address. In order to ensure communication, Windows automatically assigns an IP address to the network card.

Method 1: Enter the control panel and cancel the "Notify me when this connection is restricted or no connection" option under the "Network Connections → Local Area Connection → Properties → General" tab.

Method 2: Specify an IP address for your network card in the "Network Connection→Local Area Connection→Properties→TCP/IP" attribute (Note: Be sure to be in the same network segment as the ADSL Modem IP address) . It is recommended to use the second method, which can also reduce the boot time!

Question 3: I use dual systems. After installing SP2, I found it in "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn" in the dual boot menu file:boot.ini file. There is more "/NoExecute=OptIn", but it does not affect the use of dual systems. What does this mean?

A: It is due to another important security function in SP2 - "Data Execution Protection (DEP)". You can find it in Control Panel → System → Advanced → Settings → Data Execution Protection. When you switch between these two, "/NoExecute=OptIn" will also become "/NoExecute=Optout". Note: This feature requires hardware support: AMD Athlon 64, AMD Opteron, Intel's Itanium and Itanium 2, it is said that nVIDIA, VIA, Transmeta and other companies also plan to add this technology to their chips. It is recommended that ordinary users do not modify it, otherwise it will cause the system to run unstable. (If you want to know more about DEP, Please refer to Microsoft's KB875352 knowledge base file.)

Question 4: Due to work reasons, I often use China Merchants Bank's online banking business. Can I upgrade to SP2 and find that I can't see the verification code? What can I do?

A: In some websites that require authentication (such as online banking), most of them use the asbc to dynamically generate Xbm format pictures to display the verification code. However, SP2 does not support Xbm format pictures by default, which makes it impossible. See the verification code. We can do this by modifying the registry

: Click "Start" → "Run", enter "regedit" and enter the registry to enter the registry. To: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSecurity, create a new dword value "blockXbm" in the right window and set the key value to "00000000", which will take effect after restarting.

Question 5: When I installed SP2, I want to use Windows update to see When I look at the "V5" upgrade website in "Legend", I get an error message "HTTP5000 error - intranet 0x8ddd0010 error", can't access the website. What can I do?

A: This is due to IE pop-up blocker The conflict with Windows update. Solution: Open Internet Explorer, select Tools menu→Internet Options→Privacy→Settings, and add “http://v5.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com” to “Website Address to Allow”. "(Do not include double quotes), then click "Add", and finally "Close" the window.

Question 6: I am a maintenance person of a website, sometimes need to check the URL of some pop-ups is valid Sex. Since SP2 is installed, all pop-ups are blocked. What can I do?

A: If you need to check frequently Out of the window, you can turn off this feature: go to the IE Tools menu → Internet Options → Privacy, uncheck the box in front of “Block pop-ups”, then click OK to turn off this feature. If you occasionally allow pop-ups, you can click Hold down the Ctrl key or hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the link in the pop-up window, so you can temporarily skip this feature.

Question 7: After installing SP2, the Internet zone security level defaults to intermediate. When I want to lower the security level, a pop-up dialog box prompts that the security level is not allowed to be lowered. How to solve it?

Answer: The solution is to open Notepad, enter the following text, and then save it as REG registry file and double-click to import the registry.

Question 8: I often use BT to download, but since upgrading to SP2, I found that the download speed is much slower, and when using BT download, there will be problems that can't open the webpage. What is the reason?

A: This is because SP2 limits the maximum number of concurrent connections to TCP. The purpose is to increase network security and prevent network crashes caused by worms such as shockwaves. This restriction is only a limitation on the number of concurrent connection threads, and there is no limit if the connection is completed. This restriction has a certain impact on downloads such as bt, but does not affect its final download speed. If you feel that the download speed is slow, it is a problem with the built-in firewall. If you have a third-party firewall (such as Skynet) installed, you can turn it off. If you don't want to turn off your own firewall, you can do this: Go to the Windows Firewall, check the UPnP "Frame" in the "Exceptions" option, and edit, in the pop-up window "Edit Service" "Change Range", then select "any computer ( Including computers on the Internet)".

For questions about not being able to open a web page, you can download the official version of BitComet at the address below. The maximum number of simultaneous TCP connection attempts has been increased in this release, reducing the impact of the XP SP2 connection limit.

Question 9: In SP2, the function of blocking pop-ups has been provided, and it feels good! Unfortunately, I like to use GreenBrowser to browse the web. Although it is based on the IE core, it does not support this new feature, but it also comes with a similar plugin. But always feel a little regret! Excuse me, is there a way to use it?

A: Of course! The easiest way is to change the GreenBrowser.exe to iexplore.exe by going to the GreenBrowser installation directory. Although you can use this new feature, there will be some garbled characters on the bottom left, which is hard to read! ! However, there is now a perfect solution:

First of all, please download the Maxthon Maxthon browser here. Then extract to any directory, go to this directory and find the sp2settings.reg file. After selecting it, right click and select "Edit" to open this file. Use the "Find Replace" function to replace "maxthon

.exe" with "GreenBrowser.exe" and save and exit. Double-click this file to import the registry. Try it now! !

Tip: If you don't want to use this feature, please find sp2removal.exe and replace it as above. Finally, you can "uninstall" this feature. In addition, if you use other IE-based browsers such as MYIE, you can follow this method, and it is also effective!

Question 10: After I installed SP2, I found that the system partition was a few hundred megabytes less. After checking, there is a "$NtServicePackUninstall$" directory in the c:Windows directory, which is actually 349MB! In addition, the c:WindowsServicePackFiles folder actually has 400MB! ! ! What is this? Can I delete it?

A: The "$NtServicePackUninstall$" folder is the folder needed to uninstall SP2. You can't use the Control Panel to uninstall SP2 when it's deleted! Of course, if you use stability and don't want to uninstall SP2, you can delete it! !

The SP2 installation file exists in the "ServicePackFiles" folder. If you delete it, you may need to insert the SP2 installation CD when you add some new features (such as adding a Bluetooth peripheral). If you have integrated SP2 into the Windows XP installation CD, you can also remove it. Of course, please choose according to your specific situation.
