Linux Tools Installation Guide for VMware Tools

  

VMware Tools is an enhancement to VMware. Usually you need to install VMware Tools after installing VMware. How do you install VMware Tools under Linux? Let's learn together with Xiaobian.

Choose & ldquo; Install WMware Tools & rdquo; from VM menu (not install a virtual tool, by [VM] - to install "[Install WMware Tools] menu).

Installing VMware Tools Steps:

1. If it is in the graphical interface, press CTRL + ALT + F1 to enter the Linux text interface.

If you started Linux with Linux text mode from the start, you don't need this step.

2. Enter Linux as root.

3. Press CTRL + ALT to enter the main operating system and click the Install Virtual Machine tool submenu under the Virtual menu. Menu: VM-"Install VMware tools. . . (Virtual Machine - "Install VMware Tools..))

4. Click the "Install" button in the pop-up dialog box to confirm the installation of VMware Tools.

5. Click the Linux interface and go to Linux.

6. Use the following command to mount the CD-ROM drive, pay attention to capitalization.

(If there is no corresponding directory under /mnt, it can be created by the mkdir command)

mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom

7.cd /mnt/cdrom

Enter the /mnt/cdrom folder;

8.ls

Use the following command to display the contents of the folder.

You will find two files:

VMwareTools-6.0.3-80004.i386.rpm and VMwareTools-6.0.3-80004.tar.gz

It is the Linux package for VMware Tools. (6.0.3-80004 is the version number, it may be different)

9. rpm -ivh VMwareTools-6.0.3-80004.i386.rpm

Use the following command to directly Run the rpm package.

Preparing. . ##################################################################################################### ####################################################################################### [100%]

You will see the installation progress:

10. cd /usr/bin

Use the following command to enter the /usr/bin directory.

11. ls *.pl

Use the following command to find the vmware-config-tools.pl file.

12. /vmware-config-tools.pl

Run the vmware-config-tools.pl file.

14. After the installation, you can set the shared folder on the host. Click on the menu:

[vm]-"[setting]-"[Options]-"[Share Folders], then click the Add button on the right, select the host directory

15. In Linux Go to “/mnt/hgfs” and you can see the shared directory.

16. Then you can install the software you want;

The above is the installation of VMware Tools under Linux. The method introduced, although not installing VMware Tools does not affect the use of VMware, but the installation of VMware Tools can achieve file sharing between the host and the virtual machine, making VMware more convenient to use.
