How shadow systems test new software security

I like to try out a variety of new software downloaded online, or a new version of some software, but I am afraid that these software will be bundled with some plug-ins and even viruses, messing up my system. How can I safely test these software and clean up their traces if there is a problem? [Solutions] The above requirements can be solved perfectly through the “shadow system”. What is a shadow system? To give a simple example, the operating system is like a table. The shadow system is the glass on the table. Although the glass will be made dirty by tea or soup, if you take the glass away, you will find that the table is still Clean. From this, you may think of a lot of security software in the "sandbox" function, but although the sandbox also has isolation, but there is no shadow system to do it thoroughly. A shadow system is recommended when the risk of complete software is extremely high. [Solution method] The domestic shadow system has almost stopped development, so today I am using the foreign shadow system Toolwiz Time Freeze, which needs to set several options during installation. After starting the installation wizard, first select Chinese to install the Chinese version, then set the disk buffer (disk caching), if the disk space is large enough, it is recommended to set the buffer to be larger to ensure smooth operation of the shadow system (Figure 1). Among other options, it is recommended to select the “Windows Safe-mode” option in the “Safe Mode” option. If there is a problem with the shadow system, it is easy to uninstall it in safe mode. After the installation is restarted, you can see the icon of Toolwiz Time Freeze in the system tray. Right-click this icon and select “Show main interface”. In the main window that pops up, select “Show shortcut bar on the desktop”. A toolbar can be seen above the desktop, allowing you to quickly launch or exit Toolwiz Time Freeze. Later, when you need to test a software with unknown risk, you can right-click on the Toolwiz Time Freeze toolbar and select “Start Protection” (Figure 2). Click on “Delete” in the pop-up inquiry window. The system is now The shadow system is protected (Figure 3). Next, we only need to perform any computer operation as usual, such as downloading and installing software. If some software is found to have malicious behavior during the test, such as bundling other plug-ins, modifying the browser's home page, etc., in order to restore the system to the previous state, just click on the Toolwiz Time Freeze main interface and click “ Close protection "(Figure 4), the shadow system will immediately restart the system, the reboot is complete, all information just tested will be removed from the operating system, leaving no trace. Tips Sometimes you may not want to erase all the information, but want to keep some of them, then you need to set it before starting the protection function: In the main interface of Toolwiz Time Freeze, select "Only" to allow the following files to be launched in the shadow system. When the item is excluded, click on “Add File” or “Add Folder” to select the file or folder that will not be erased after modification. The files saved in these locations will be retained.
