Why can't I record with a USB capture device

Q: I want to capture images from a digital camera using Windows Movie Maker that comes with Windows Me. But I don't know why, is it impossible to record using the capture device of the USB interface?

A: This issue may occur if a USB capture device (such as a USB digital camera) is not working properly. To correct this problem, you need to perform the following steps: The first step is to check the status of the device. To do this: Open Start → Settings → Control Panel → System → Device Manager, select the appropriate USB capture device, and then click Properties. In the Device Status area, verify that the device is working properly. If the device is not working properly, perform the following steps: Exit any software applications (including Windows Movie Maker) that may attempt to use the USB capture device to ensure that the USB device is properly connected to your computer. Click Start → Settings → Control Panel → System → Device Manager, click the group where the capture device is located, select the USB capture device that does not work, and then click Delete. USB capture devices can be included in any of the following categories in Device Management: imaging devices; sound, video, and game controllers; or universal serial bus controllers. Click Start → Shut Down System and select Restart Computer. A USB device should be detected when Windows Me restarts. Windows Me will either install the necessary drivers or prompt you to insert the CD or disk provided with the capture device, which contains the capture device driver. After reinstalling the USB capture device driver, perform the following steps: Click Start → Settings → Control Panel → System → Device Manager, select the USB capture device, and click the “Properties” button. In the Device Status area, make sure the USB device is detected and working. Open Windows Movie Maker, click the File menu, and select the Record menu item. In the Capture list, make sure the USB capture device is the selected video device, then click the Record button to start recording what appears in the monitor. If these steps don't work, ask your USB capture device manufacturer for the latest device drivers.
