How to prevent the notification window from popping up when running a full screen program (Windows XP only) (new)

If you run a full screen program such as PPT, MSN Messenger can change your work status to "Busy" ", and block the pop-up of the notification window. The user clicks the "Actions" menu in the main window of Messenger, points to "Options", in the "Personal Information" tab, finds "My Status" and selects the checkbox "When I run a full screen program (such as a slideshow) Show), show my status as 'Busy' and block notifications."

Send pictures or other files to someone

You can also pass pictures or other files Send it by dragging it from the file directory to the name in the contact list. You can terminate the transfer of the file at any time by clicking "Cancel".

Tips for Customizing Emoticons

When specifying keyboard shortcuts for emoticons, do not specify them as a subset of other keyboard shortcuts. For example, if you have specified a keyboard shortcut "cat" for an emoticon, do not specify a shortcut "cat1" for another emoticon, otherwise the emoticon with the shortcut "cat1" will not be displayed.

Prevent someone in your contact list from seeing you and contacting you

In the main Messenger window, right-click the name of the person you want to block, and then click Block. To block someone who is talking to you, click near the top of the Conversation window. To see a list of blocked people, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Privacy tab. Note: Blocked contacts don't know they have been blocked. For them, you just show up as offline. Removing a blocked person from the contact list does not remove the block. The person you blocked cannot contact you directly; however, if someone invites you and invites someone you block to talk to, you will find yourself in the same conversation as the person you blocked.

Changing or turning off the "away" status

On the Tools menu in the main window, click Options and select the Personal Information tab. Under "My status," change the number in "If I stay inactive for ___ minutes, please show me the number in the "Leave" checkbox. Click "OK." Note: If you want to prevent the display of pop-up notifications when you use your computer to play a presentation, demo, or slide show, check "When I run a full-screen program (such as a slide show), display my status as "Busy" and block Notification checkbox.
Change the prompt sound when notifications are received

In the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the General tab.
Click on "Sound".

In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, click the Sounds tab. In the Program Events box, scroll down to MSN Messenger.

Click the sound you want to change and select a new sound from the Sound drop-down list. You can listen to the sound by clicking "Play".

If the list does not have the sound you want, click Browse and look for other sound files (files with a .wav extension).

Tip: To find all the sound files on your computer, click the Windows Start button, click Search, and then click All Files and Folders. In the All or part of the file name box, type *.wav, and then click Search. In the search results, double-click on a sound to audition. Once you have found the sound you want, remember its name and location, then follow the steps above. When you reach the final step, browse to the directory that contains the sound you want to use.

Sending an instant message to other friends outside the contact list

First, click the "Send Instant Message" option under "I want" in the main window of MSN Messenger, then click "Others" " button, type the full email address of the contact here, and finally click the "OK" button. Note: Contacts who send instant messages to them must have a version of Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger installed.

Configuring your network for instant messaging and file transfer

If MSN Messenger cannot connect directly to the Internet from a computer or network behind a firewall or NAT, you will try to use your default Internet browser Connect the same connection settings. If MSN Messenger connects in this way, its functionality is limited to sending instant messages and seeing which contacts are online. For best performance and full functionality, including transferring files using MSN Messenger, we recommend trying to configure your proxy server to allow your network or computer to connect directly to the MSN Messenger server. In the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Connections tab. Correctly configure the information and instructions for the Connections tab of its MSN Messenger program. Open the outgoing TCP connection to port 1863 and the TCP port between 6891 and 6900 on the proxy server.
