Win10 First Anniversary Update 14393.10 Edition Cortana Disappearing Temporary Solution

Microsoft today pushed the official version of the Win10 first anniversary update, the latest version number is 14393.10, which contains a lot of fixes, but some users also reflect that after the update, Cortana disappears, becomes a normal search bar, and regardless of the group policy Still the registry does not help.

Some computers in the IT home have also encountered this problem, and the enterprise version has not been spared. After we observed it, the problem seems to be unrelated to the Cortana program itself, but related to account permissions. Because the same problematic computer, the commonly used administrator account Cortana becomes "search", and the less common "standard account" is that Cortana is intact.

We also suspected that this was related to the Microsoft account login, but after logging out of the Microsoft account, Cortana was still able to use it after logging in to the standard account. So the key point of the problem is that the old administrator account in the system will encounter the Cortana problem.

In this case, in addition to uninstalling 14393.10 update KB3176929, if you want to continue to use Cortana on the current system, the temporary and convenient solution is to create a new local account (for details, see Getting Started with Win10: How to Add Local account?, you can omit the new step if you have a ready-made one, and you can choose to give administrator privileges in the control panel (above), and then you can log in to the Microsoft account based on this account (not required, now local account) Cortana can also be used.

Note: Accounts that have disappeared from Cortana cannot be fixed even if they are downgraded to a standard account.
At present, Microsoft has received a lot of feedback on Cortana's disappearance problem, which should be solved. Users who encounter this problem can wait patiently for Microsoft's patch.
