WP mobile phone business is too bad: Win10 installed 1 billion target tragedy

Microsoft had predicted more than a year ago that by the middle of 2018 Windows 10 operating system will be installed on 1 billion devices. But the company’s executives admitted on Friday that this expectation is unlikely to come true.
Foreign media reports that Microsoft executives still expect to run 1 billion devices based on Windows 10, but the matter "is unlikely to happen in 2018 as Microsoft originally expected."
A spokesperson for Microsoft said in a statement: "The adoption rate of Windows 10 is the highest in the history of the company. The monthly active equipment has exceeded 350 million units, and user satisfaction and participation have set a record. I am pleased with the progress made so far, but as the company is focusing on the mobile phone hardware business, the goal of achieving monthly active equipment of 1 billion units will take longer and will not be reached until after 2018. In the future In a year, we are excited about the increase in usage of commercial deployments and new devices, and users' satisfaction with Windows systems will also rise."
At the 2015 Build Developer Conference, Microsoft Windows and Its equipment director, Terry Melson, made the initial expectations and pointed out at the time that this expectation covers a variety of devices based on the indows 10 operating system, such as desktops, PCs, laptops, tablets, Windows Phone, Xbox. One game console, Surface Hub teleconferencing system, HoloLens augmented reality glasses and a variety of IoT devices. In addition, Microsoft executives at the time said that most of the 1 billion devices would be PCs and tablets.
But at the time, Microsoft executives expected that Windows Phone devices running on the Windows 10 Mobile operating system would also help them reach their goals in mid-2018. However, the Windows Phone market has disappeared since April 2015, and Microsoft executives have acknowledged that Windows Phone is not the company's focus in 2016.
There are still rumors on the market that Microsoft will release some type of Surface Phone device, but this device will not surface until 2017. Surface Phone will be a niche market product that targets the commercial market and is designed to showcase Microsoft's Continuum capabilities.
Microsoft has been actively trying to push existing Windows 7 and Windows 8.x users to use Windows 10, for which a free upgrade plan is available as of July 29. But for Windows 10 adoption, the impact of this program is likely to be relatively small, because almost no users are upgrading to get a new version of Windows.
