Microsoft: 64-bit Windows (Win7/Vista/XP) safer secret

Microsoft Security has said that 64-bit Windows is rarely attacked by viruses compared to 32-bit operating systems.

Joe Faulhaber, a member of the Microsoft Malware Protection Center, said: "In the first half of this year, 64-bit Windows was the least infected, because 64-bit malware is relatively rare."

Microsoft data shows that for Windows XP, 64-bit system infection is 48% lower than 32-bit. For Vista, 64-bit system infection is 35% lower than 32-bit, and Windows7 is certainly safer.

In addition to the scarcity of 64-bit malware, Fahab also said that 64-bit Windows is also designed to be more secure than 32-bit, for example, the PatchGuard security feature unique to the 64-bit version.
