Foreign brick home: UAC in Windows7 is a display

Microsoft changed the UAC (User Account Control) function in the Vista system that was criticized by a large number of users in the Windows 7 operating system, greatly reducing the annoying security prompts and allowing users to freely control the security level of the UAC function, thus installing the application. When the program is used, UAC prompts will rarely appear in front of people, but according to research by foreign researchers, it is precisely because of the above reasons that users are more likely to be infected with malware than the Vista system when using the Windows 7 operating system.

A senior security consultant at Sophos pointed out that "Microsoft has reduced UAC functionality too much," in the vista system, when users install an application or device driver, they need to agree to UAC prompts. Only allows the system to perform tasks, but in response to the user's complaints, Microsoft modified the UAC function in the Windows 7 operating system, and let it not appear in front of everyone. But the senior security adviser thinks this is not a good thing.

The researchers said, "In order to verify the effect of the UAC function in the Windows 7 operating system, we have selected 10 malicious program samples for actual testing." These 10 samples are almost all Trojans, when they are When installed in the Windows 7 operating system without anti-virus software protection, then use these malicious programs to simulate attacking the computer. Here the researchers run the 10 malicious programs one by one, the computer system failed to escape the attack of malicious programs, and was silently attacked by malicious programs. And only two of the 10 malicious programs may not be able to run on the Windows 7 system because of design problems, and only one of the remaining 8 malicious programs is blocked by the UAC prompt popup.

Although researchers also admit that such test results are not necessarily accurate, but to make the Windows 7 operating system more secure, you must use other anti-virus tools to enhance the system's defenses, such as The basic security protection provided by Microsoft's free security suite MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). The key point here is to see how much malware Windows 7 UAC can effectively block for users.

He pointed out that "UAC really can't protect user system security. Frankly speaking, the UAC function in Windows7 operating system is not as good as that provided by vista system. If you think it is really troublesome, maybe You can turn it off directly, because it does not bring you more benefits."
