Windows 7 does not natively support a hybrid SLI/CrossFire system

NVIDIA and AMD recently proposed a discrete graphics and integrated graphics collaboration solution, called Hybrid SLI and Hybrid CrossFireX, which both guarantee better performance on the one hand and flexible system power reduction on the other hand. . But Microsoft is not optimistic about this new technology. In a recent document called "Windows 7 System Graphics Guide", Microsoft declared: "This type of system needs to be restarted to complete the switch between graphics cards. Windows 7 does not provide support for hybrid graphics systems. We strongly recommend that system manufacturers not introduce this product because it is unstable and will result in a poor user experience. ”

However, high-end users should be able to enjoy the higher performance of multiple discrete graphics in parallel in the new system, namely SLI and CrossFireX. Microsoft said in the document that Windows 7 will support two different types of multi-graphics solutions. One is that the graphics card specifications and the drivers used are identical, and the other is that the graphics card specifications are different and each uses a different driver.

In addition, Microsoft introduced some of the new features of DX11 Direct3D 11, including computational shaders, multi-threaded resource processing, tessellation, improved texture compression, advanced shading language enhancements, etc. Wait. This will all be done in Windows 7.

In addition, Windows 7 will introduce a new driver model, WDDM 1.1, which provides better stability and higher performance than Vista WDDM 1.0.
