It is reported that Microsoft is developing Windows 8 applications to narrow the gap with Apple and Google in mobile applications. In this regard, it has made a lot of efforts, including training design companies and developers, launching various support services, and collecting excellent applications around the world. Apple and Google have the world's top app stores, so they also have a lot of developer support. Microsoft does not have a large number of third-party developers to develop games, office applications or online magazines.

Currently, the computer market is experiencing a shift from PC tablets and applications. Microsoft is also trying to expand into the tablet market. Gartner expects the global mobile app market to reach $58 billion in 2014, and mobile apps will drive demand for tablets.

According to people familiar with the matter, Microsoft will launch Windows 8 during the year. Currently, ARM-based tablets do not support current Windows applications, and Microsoft has to start from scratch. In contrast, the Apple iPad already has more than 200,000 apps. And if there are not enough applications, Windows 8 tablets are hard to get the favor of users.

At present, ARM processors have been widely used in mobile devices such as iPad, but Windows 8 is Microsoft's first operating system to support ARM chips. The problem is that these ARM-based Windows 8 tablets do not support current Windows applications. To this end, Microsoft launched an application collection program. Today, the program has expanded to 87 cities, including New York, Paris and Guangzhou.
