The steps are as follows:

1. First download the KB2852386 patch: (since the update is marked as "important" level, not "serious" level, users need to manually download Offline installation package.)

2. Restart your computer.

3. Start the Disk Cleanup Wizard. To do this, use one of the following methods: Method 1: Click Start, type cleanmgr in the Start Search box, and then click OK. Method 2: Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

4. Select the Win7 system drive and click OK. (usually “C:\\”) Note that this operation may take a few seconds because the Disk Cleanup Wizard searches for files on the drive to be cleaned.

5. If the Windows Update Cleanup option is not displayed on the Disk Cleanup tab, click Clear System Files. If the Windows Update Cleanup option appears on the Disk Cleanup tab, go to step 5. Note The Windows Update Cleanup option is only available when you log in with administrator privileges.

6. Select the Win7 system drive and click OK. On the Disk Cleanup tab, select Windows Update Cleanup, and then click OK. Note By default, the Windows Update Cleanup option has been selected.

7. A dialog box appears, click Delete File. The cleaning process may take from a few minutes to a few tens of minutes. Please don't suddenly turn off the power. After the cleanup, you will find that your WINSXS folder is significantly smaller. Attachment: The use of winsxs Win7 has a WinSxS directory for storing backup files after WindowsUpdate is installed. When Microsoft designed Win7, once a new ServicePack service package was released, users could choose to delete the outdated WindowsUpdate backup files that are not needed in all directories. But the problem is that Microsoft only provides a service pack service upgrade package for Win7 released in 2009, namely Win7SP1. After the release of SP1, Microsoft no longer plans to release the second version of the SP service pack. This means that the WinSxS directory has been affected by more than two years of WindowsUpdate backup files, including security updates released before this week. So on the Tuesday patch day of this month, Microsoft did not release a complete ServicePack service upgrade package, but released an update program to remove outdated WindowsUpdate backup files stored in the WinSxS directory after Win7 SP1.
