If you create a senior non-family group sharing in Windows 7, I believe you remember that by default, all users need to enter credentials to connect when they try to access your computer, and the credentials can be verified before they can list the available shares. In fact, this is the default shared security feature in Windows 7, enabling password-protected sharing.

This setting is associated with a network type profile. For example, when you access a new network environment, Windows 7 will pop up a wizard for you to choose a home network, a working network or a public network. Selecting a home or work network corresponds to a dedicated network profile, while selecting a public network corresponds to Is a public network profile. But regardless of which profile, password-protected sharing is enabled by default. If you want to check or change the settings for each profile, go to “Networks & Internet>-“Networks & Sharing Center"-“Advanced Sharing Settings&> under “Control Panel”.

After turning on the "Enable password protected sharing" setting, when users try to access your computer, they must first type in a credential that is the username of an account located on your computer and Password (this account must have a password to access). When the credentials are verified, you can see the available shared folders, and when you further access a folder, you need to match the credentials you just entered with the shared access permissions of the folder, if you have permission to access This folder can continue. (The function of enabling password protected sharing is not applicable to the domain network.)

Therefore, if you want to successfully access the shared folder and the contents, you need to ensure that the computers are in the same working group and the same network segment can access each other. In addition, you need to assign a suitable account to the folder and assign permissions, and let the visitor enter the credentials (username and password) for the account when the credentials are first entered. Let's take a look at an example to see how to share and access correctly.

We assume that there are two PCs, called A and B, ready to create a shared folder on A, and use Eric, a local account for protection, and then let users on B use the computer A. Eric's credentials access. So, we need to do this:

1. Prepare the folder to be shared on A. For example, we create a folder called “Share”, then right click on it and select &ldquo ;property", and switch to the "Share” tab.

In fact, in the lower part of this tab, we can clearly see that the current computer is in a state with password protected sharing enabled, and the user must have a user account and password for this computer to enumerate shared folders.

2. Click the “Advanced Share” button to bring up the Advanced Share Configuration dialog box, select the checkbox in front of “Share this folder" and click the "Permissions" button.

3. In the pop-up privilege configuration dialog, we select the “Everyone” group that appears by default and delete it.

Note that if you don't follow the steps below, you can use the “Everyone” group by default, but the visitor only needs to enter the credentials of any account with your password. This shared folder can be accessed after verification. After following the steps below, the shared content can only be accessed after providing the credentials of the specified account and verifying it.

4. We click the “Add” button, in the pop-up "Select User or Group" dialog box, we type the account name of a local user account with a password, and Click the "Check Name" button on the right. If the name you entered is correct, the front end of the name will be automatically added to the computer name and the entire name will be underlined. For example, let's type "<;Eric"; after checking the name, it should be like this:

Note that you must add a user with a password and access to the files (folders) you will share. Name, because the empty password is not accepted when accessing the input credentials at the remote end. Of course, you can also add the username of the account currently logged in on computer A (also requires that the account has a login password).

5. In the “Select User or Group” dialog box, click “OK” to return to the permission setting dialog box. We can further determine the remote user by checking the method. Is it read-only when accessing the share or can be changed inside the file. For example, we hope that this password-protected share can be changed, deleted, etc. for authorized users. You can tick the checkbox in the <;Full Control" “OK”.

6. Go back to the “Advanced Sharing” dialog and click the “OK” button to apply the permission settings, then we can close the properties dialog of this shared folder. At this point, we created a specific user to access the sharing of their content.
