Windows Vista, 2008 reinstallation system activation information backup method

Activation system is one thing that must be done after installing the system. The activation methods provided by Microsoft include network activation, phone activation and so on. . . Although network activation is not a very troublesome thing, what if your computer can't connect to the Internet?

In fact, we can completely back up the activation files in the activated system. And restore to the reinstalled system, to achieve the purpose of activating the system, you can completely get rid of the network, and do not have to make a call.

First, back up the activation files in the activated system before reinstalling the system.

The files that need to be backed up are very simple, only two:

%windir%\\System32\\licensing\\pkeyconfig\\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms

%windir%\\ServiceProfiles\\ NetworkService\\AppData\\Roaming\\Microsoft\\SoftwareLicensing\\tokens.dat

It should be noted that when you enter the two directories, NetworkService and SoftwareLicensing, you need to upgrade to administrator privileges to access.

Then, just reinstall the system. Do not enter the serial number or connect any network during the installation of the system. It is best to temporarily unplug the network cable connected to the computer.

Finally, it is to restore the backup file we backed up.

Then enter “regedt32” in the "Run” command in the Start menu to open the Registry Editor and import the reg file you just saved via the “File->Import” command in the menu. Go to the registry. This is done to make it easy for us to take ownership of some protected system files. Without ownership, we can't recover the backed up files.

Next, open “service” in “Control Panel"             Stop running. After that, we can copy the two files we backed up in advance to their original location.

Re-open the "Software Licensing" service that you just stopped, enter "ldm;slmgr.vbs –ipk your system serial number" in the "Run" command and run it, wait a moment, You can see the prompt that the system was successfully activated.

Ok, then restart the system, now you can pick up the network cable that was unplugged when you installed the system, and use the system that has been reactivated.

This method can also be applied to Windows 2008 Server series systems. After reading this article, will you feel that you only need to overwrite the two files of the activated system with pkeyconfig.xrm-ms and tokens.dat on the inactive system. Of course, this has not been tested, and a friend in need can try it.
