Notes installed WIN7 system (2)

Third, do not be afraid to get back the old drive

in my tests so far, Windows7 on the drive has been very thorough. But it's not perfect, some devices are blank, or replaced by generic drivers.

If you have an earlier version of WindowsVista or Windows7 installation, you do not need a backup driver uses a special program from the old system. Windows Vista and Windows 7 are in a folder called FileRepository, which reminds everyone to save a local copy of all drivers, which is in a subfolder of the DriverStore folder. The full path is C:. WindowsSystem32DriverStoreFileRepository

Windows7X86 in a clean installation, FileRepository folder contains more than 900 MB file. If you add a new device or updates, that number could easily exceed 1GB.

After you complete a new installation of Windows7, you can use the Device Manager to install or update any driver or just You need to click on the old driver you saved to install it.

Fourth, without fear of overwriting the old file folders

When you instruct Windows Setup to do a custom installation, it will be the old Windows, ProgramFiles, and user folders (DocumentsandSettings) Mobile Go to a folder called Windows.Old. The new installation creates a new set of top-level folders on the current system drive: windows, ProgramFiles, and Users. The benefit of this is that the single disk on the system has a new installation with only one partition and a large amount of free disk space. No data will be lost. A new, non-destructive installation gives you a new start, and old data files are safely hidden in the Windows.old folder.

To perform a clean installation of non-destructive, you can step to start or Windows7 Windows installer from Windows7DVD, click install, choose Custom (Advanced) option, and then, in the list of available disk partition, select contains a The partition of your current Windows installation. For most people, it is drive C. After clicking OK, you will see a warning dialog. After completing the setup, when you start Windows 7 for the first time, you will see all your data and program files are in In the Windows.Old folder. If you have any old data files to retrieve, you can find them in Usersfolder (WindowsVista) or DocumentsandSettings.

Five, a return to the hard disk capacity requirements

under today's standards, you do not need a lot of disk space to install the Windows7. Microsoft announced the RC minimum hardware recommended 16G free disk space. But that's not a hard requirement. After installing Windows7Ultimate on a 10G drive (9.9G format) virtual machine, I still have 3.95G of free disk space.

Later noticed that comprehensive installation space required Windows7Ultimatex86 of 6 to 9G. Obviously, this amount will increase when you install additional programs or create data files. But how big should the system partition be? Remind that 15G is a minimum scale, but it will get nervous sooner or later, so if you have enough spare disk space, it is recommended to reserve at least 30G.
