Improve Win 7 startup and shutdown time on netbook

Craig Marcho, an engineer from Microsoft Performance Team, published a Windows Netbook experience on his blog. The Pre-Beta version of Windows 7's Nebook helps it run Microsoft Outlook 2007 smoothly, with a lot of internal programs and IE8. Although Craig has not mentioned the version it installed, he mentioned the Pre-beta version of Windows 7. We can assume that he is a Windows 7 Ultimate version.

He cited some major factors to explain why users (how) can benefit from the combination of netbook and Windows 7:

* More lightweight Windows 7 system is more suitable Netbook is used, especially when many netbooks use small-capacity SSDs, Atom processors and 1GB of memory. Although these components can be upgraded, the underlying netbook hardware itself can support Windows 7 installation.

*Windows 7 can detect and configure the system to make reasonable use of the technology in the SSD. However, Windows 7 does not automatically configure SSD defragmentation because excessive defragmentation of SSDs can deplete the life of SSDs.

*netbooks can also be used in enterprise environments. Some common usage scenarios make tasks such as inventory more flexible. Using remote desktops for easy use in meetings and presentations, integrating 3G WWAN cards can make it Connect to a remote system where there is no wireless access point.

Microsoft has promised to improve the startup and shutdown time of Windows 7 on netbooks, resulting in better battery life, enhanced media performance, reliability, flexibility and security. There are also plans to introduce a low-cost version of Windows Server for netbooks in the coming months. Netbook vendors such as ASUS will support native Mobile Broadband in Windows 7.

At last week's Microsoft annual economic conference, Ballmer told economic analysts that Microsoft needs to carefully consider what type of value and price SKUs are brought to netbooks. According to Stephen Elop, head of Microsoft's business division, Microsoft is developing a dedicated software package for the netbook, and plans to launch a special version of the Netbook for Office 14.
