Modify the Windows system drive letter through the registry

More and more installation software, resulting in a sharp nervous system disk space of Windows7, everyone is accusing WindowsInstaller copy the installer to %SystemRoot%Installer (you can enter this Open Installer folder in the run dialog) but Did not do the timely cleanup. Ok, I admit that my system has been taken up by 5.80GB. The masters also warned that the files here should not be deleted directly. What would happen if they did that?

Forget it, or find a way to adjust the system partition. As you can see, I adjusted the 4.9GB space belonging to the E disk to the Win7 system disk G, which is cool again. However, things are often not that simple.

Please note this drive letter setting:

C: boot disk, WindowsXP system disk

D:E:F:local disk

G:Windows7 System disk

adjustment scheme, 4.9GB free space in the E: end of the disk, F: disk size unchanged, directly forward, move 4.9GB of free space to F: disk, G: disk The previous location, then allocate the free space to the G: drive.

My partitioning software is running on XP. After restarting the computer several times, the partition adjustment is completed.

Restart again, enter the Win7 system, stay on the login interface for a long time, and tell you that the temporary desktop environment is configured. After entering the desktop, if you manually "run" the Explorer program, you can see the poor after initializing the desktop. Two icons.

Now, Win7 maps the necessary files of the system to the G: drive, while the G: drive is the partition of the original F: drive. That is to say, the partition of F: and G: disk has been exchanged. Then, after the system is started, most of the files stored in the registry are path information pointing to the drive letter, which causes the system to fail to run normally.

These two figures are the partition information after being correctly replaced:
