How to create a virtual disk in Win 8 system

  
1. Right click in the lower left corner of the screen and select “Disk Management” in the Mystery menu. 2. In the Disk Management window that pops up, select the operation. Under the menu, “Create VHD”::

3. Specify the location, size, format and type of the virtual disk in the pop-up window.
Format: VHD is an early virtual disk format that supports up to 2T storage; VHDX is a new virtual disk format in Windows 8, which can support up to 64T, but is not supported in previous versions.
Type: Fixed size allocates the specified size directly to the created disk when creating the disk; dynamic expansion will gradually expand the virtual disk file size according to the usage, until the specified size is reached.

4. After setting, click OK to complete the creation and mounting of the virtual disk.

5. The virtual disk is the same as the physical disk. The newly created virtual disk needs to be initialized. In Disk Management, right-click on the left side of the newly created disk and select “ Initialize Disk":

6. In the pop-up window, follow the prompts to complete the initialization.

7. After formatting, right click on the right side of the virtual disk and select “New Simple Volume”, follow the prompts to specify the size, assign the drive letter, set the volume label, and complete the formatting.

8. After the formatting is finished, return to the resource manager and you can see that the virtual disk you just added is ready for use.
