The ARM version of Windows 8 is still compatible with the desktop application

Microsoft today explained the improvement in battery life of Windows 8 in an official blog, suggesting that both Metro style apps and desktop apps can run on the ARM version of Windows 8.

Last year, it was reported that Microsoft decided to abandon support for desktop applications in the ARM version of Windows 8. The x86 applications developed for the desktop version of Windows 8 are not compatible with the ARM version of Windows 8, that is, the ARM version of Windows. 8 only supports Metro apps.

In the latest article on Buiding Windows 8 official blog "Improving power efficiency for applications", Microsoft talked about SoC (system-on-a-chip) devices (all ARM-based tablets and PCs can be considered as SoC devices, It is said that Intel and AMD will also introduce SoC devices). Microsoft wrote:

“ We have adopted a new smartphone-like power mode for a range of PCs, especially based on SoC architecture, which do not need to be turned off when not in use, but instead Enter a low power operating state. This new state is called & ldquo; Connected Standby, which enables some connected scenarios, such as instant updates to Email, SMS or phone calls, and has no effect on battery life. The following figure shows the desktop application and the Metro style application in the standby mode: "< rd>;

In view of the SoC architecture mentioned above "Desktop applications and Metro style applications on the PC", the well-known IT website ZDNet speculates that this is Microsoft's suggestion that the ARM version of Windows 8 is still compatible with desktop applications.

For this speculation, Microsoft remains silent and has not responded.
