Faster startup Win8 will be compatible with next-generation UEFI BIOS

At the recent Taipei Computer Show, Phoenix Technology’s global vice president and general manager of Greater China, Wu Huiyu confirmed in an interview with Digitimes The next generation of UEFI BIOS will be available on future tablets and PCs, and speed up the startup of Windows 8. This means that the technology will be fully compatible with ARM and the traditional X86 architecture. In addition, it will play an important role in the next generation of ARM hardware platforms equipped with Windows 8 and Google's Android platform.

According to Phoenix Technology, the company's next-generation UEFI BIOS is called Phoenix SecureCore Tiano UEFI BIOS (SCT UEFI BIOS), based on the EDK2 platform and UEFI specifications, providing a high-performance multi-layer architecture with improved Platform cultivating and simple customization features for shorter start-up times and greater reliability. In the product design phase, each OEM's different product features and special needs are taken into account, compatible with X86 and ARM architecture, Windows and Linux operating systems, and Microsoft's next-generation Windows 8 is also perfectly compatible.

Of course, the focus is still on the SCT UEFI BIOS, what kind of boot experience Windows 8 can get. In fact, according to Michael Angiulo, Microsoft's vice president of Windows strategy and hardware, the Windows 8 system took only 6 seconds to boot on a machine with UEFI and SSD. It is not difficult to guess, if you use the SCT UEFI BIOS, Windows 8 system will get a faster boot experience. However, there is no specific demonstration yet, and to what extent.

Some highlights about SecureCore Tiano UEFI BIOS firmware:

1. Support the latest UEFI specification to ensure compatibility with next-generation operating systems;

2. Based on EFI kernel and Android Dual booting of ARM handheld devices;

3, server device power-on system is easy to manage;

4, POST and BIOS configuration on the touchpad;

5, patent pending Integrated UEFI debugger.
