Windows Phone 7.8 update model is determined by the manufacturer

Computer store news: Microsoft announced in the last June Windows Phone Developer Conference that the existing Windows Phone 7.5 models can get an update close to Windows Phone 8. The publisher of this update is Microsoft, but until January 2013 we have not seen any vendors release the official Windows Phone 7.8 update push announcement.

Today, I learned from foreign media WP7forum.ru that the update is unclear. Recently, the official Twitter Twitter user of Windows Phone Russia said:

Microsoft will provide the underlying update service for every Windows Phone 7.5 user, but whether it will be pushed to the specific model will be decided by the OEM.

At present, the only question is whether the Windows Phone generation can be updated. Judging from this reply, we no longer expect Dell and LG, which have launched the Microsoft camp, to push Windows Phone 7.8 updates for their Windows Phone 7.5 phones. At least it is clear that Nokia, HTC and Samsung will provide Windows Phone 7.8 updates, but the specific support models still need OEM final announcement.

Currently, in addition to Nokia’s announcement that it will provide Windows Phone 7.8 updates for its Lumia series, Samsung’s Omnia W will also be updated, while HTC and Samsung still have no Officially announced the specific update model. For the oldest first-generation models, very popular models, such as HTC Mozart and Samsung Focus, will probably be ignored.
