How to restore the classic start menu in Windows 8?

The Windows 8 Developer Preview version is now released. I believe everyone is starting to experience it, but the current Windows 8 is still in a very early stage of development. The user interface is not very sophisticated, and it may be for the early adopters. A lot of awkwardness has come, especially the classic start menu has been replaced by the Metro UI interface, which is hard to get used to on non-touch screens.

The good news is that there is now a way to get Windows 8 new experience back to the classic start menu, which is the style of returning to Windows 7.

The steps are as follows:

1. Run “regedit” to open the Registry Editor.

2. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer.

3. Change the value of RPEnabled on the right from 1 to 0.

This traditional start menu is back. To restore it, just change the value of RPEnabled back to 1.

However, it should be noted that this modification also disables the Metro UI interface.
