Video/Audio Coding Summary for Native Support for Win8 Metro Applications

Microsoft wrote in the latest Windows8 official blog about Win8 will build a rich and expandable media platform, reduce power consumption, improve battery life, and bring a better entertainment experience for users. Microsoft's goal is to make Metro style apps natively support more video and audio encoding, ensuring a great experience for both users and developers.
Microsoft considers users' needs as follows: Html5-based entertainment on the Web; home movies on smartphones, digital cameras, and HD cameras; and popular services for music, movies, and TV shows.
Microsoft published a list of Metro applications and supported video/audio encodings in blog posts, some of which (standard *) require the Win8 Media Center feature pack or the Win8 Pro feature pack to be experienced, namely Win8 Standard Edition. These formats are not supported.
