After the Windows 8 laptop is turned off, the power light should be on for a while. Is it normal?

With the popularity of Windows 8, after installing the Windows 8 notebook, after the shutdown operation, the power indicator and other indicators will be on for several tens of seconds. Even a few minutes. This phenomenon is actually caused by the mixed shutdown characteristics of Windows 8, and is not a malfunction.

Cause Analysis:

On Windows 8 systems, in order to get faster switching speeds, Microsoft introduced a new hybrid shutdown mode.

The following is the general flow of a hybrid shutdown:

1. Click “Shutdown”.

2. The Windows broadcast runs the application shutdown information, allowing the application to save data and settings. The application can also ask for some extra time to end its current work.

3. Close the screen.

4. Windows closes the user session for each logged in user.

5, the system session sleeps, and the power is turned off.

Let's take a look at the traditional mode shutdown process:

1. Click “Shutdown”.

2. The Windows broadcast runs the application shutdown information, allowing the application to save data and settings. The application can also ask for some extra time to end its current work.

3. Windows closes the user session for each logged in user.

4, Windows sends a shutdown message to the service, the notification has started to shut down, and then shut down the service. If the service does not respond, the system will force the shutdown.

5, Windows broadcasts information to the device, indicating that the device is shut down.

6. Windows closes the system session (also known as “session 0”).

7. Windows refreshes the system drive pending data to ensure full storage.

8. Windows sends a signal to the system through the ACPI interface to power off the computer.

As you can see, Windows 8 only closes the user session and does not completely shut down the computer as before. At this point, Windows no longer waits and ends the system service and closes the session, but puts it to sleep.

Essentially, Windows 8 shutdown includes the process of logging out all users and then the system goes to sleep. Therefore, when Windows 8 starts the hybrid shutdown, the computer will close the screen after the application is closed, and at the same time, the user session is closed and closed in the background, and the entire computer is powered off after the sleep. The traditional mode is to turn off the screen at the same time by powering down the entire computer system in step 8. It is because of the difference between the time when the hybrid shutdown and the traditional mode is turned off to turn off the screen, and the phenomenon that the power indicator does not turn off immediately after the screen is turned off.

So when shutting down, how many programs are open, how many background processes and services are running, how many users are logged in, and the I/O performance of the hard disk will affect the speed at which the computer shuts down. This is also the reason why the indicator lights are different for different computers, including the same model and the same configuration computer, but the software configuration is different, each time the shutdown action is performed and the shutdown screen is turned off.

Solution:

If you understand the process of Windows 8 power on and off, you understand that this phenomenon is not a malfunction, but is caused by the characteristics of Windows 8 hybrid shutdown. However, considering the use of feelings, you can also turn off "quick start".

The steps are as follows:

1. Press “Windows Logo Key+R”, type “powercfg.cpl” and click “OK”. As shown:

2. In the “Power Options” dialog box that appears, click “Select the function of the power button”. As shown in the figure:

3, we want to set the "Start Quick Start" option, if the current gray is not optional, please click the above “ change the currently unavailable settings & rdquo;. As shown:

4. At this point, this option becomes operational. Clear the checkbox in front of “Start Quick Launch" and click “Save Changes” As shown in the figure:

Note: Since the desktop and other devices cannot directly control the power supply to the screen, the above phenomenon only exists in the notebook computer.
