How to hide Win8.1 start screen power option

The Start Screen Add Power option (Shutdown/Restart/Sleep) is one of the most comfortable improvements for Windows 8.1 Update, but not all computers that update Win8.1Update have this option. If you have a Windows tablet such as Surface Pro, you will find that there is no such power option, because the tablet itself has a physical power button, and a long press can be used to shut down.

This is Microsoft's differentiated service for different types of devices, but sometimes it will be good to do bad things. Tablet users may want this power option, because it is convenient to shut down two times. At the same time, there are also ordinary power users who do not need this power option. So, there is this little trick today: how to show or hide the power options on the Win8.1Update start screen.

Win8.1Update Power Options Button

Hiding or displaying this power option button requires modifying the registry, so be careful when handling it. The specific method is as follows:

1. Open the run box and enter “regedit” to start the registry editor;

2. Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionImmersiveShell;

3. Under the item Create a new one, named "Launcher";

4, create a DWORD value in the right window of the Launcher item, named "Launcher_ShowPowerButtonOnStartScreen", and then set its data value to 0.

Create a new registry key and DWORD value

5. Right click on the taskbar to open the Win8.1 task manager. In the process tab, find the "Windows process" ;Windows Explorer”, right click to select “restart”.

Restart Windows Explorer

6. After completing the above operation, go to the start screen and see the power option button disappear.

Successfully Remove Power Options

When you need to redisplay the power options, delete the previously created registry key or change the DWORD value of the entry to 1. For a Windows tablet that does not have a power option, set the subkey and DWORD values as described above, then set the value to 1. After restarting Windows Explorer, the power option will appear on the start screen.

Some people may ask, can the search button on the side of the power option be handled like this? Unfortunately, there are currently no registry entries to fulfill this requirement.
