How Windows 8 Systems Use File History

  

Win8 Home File History automatically backs up files located in libraries, contacts, favorites, Microsoft SkyDrive, and on the desktop. To start automatic backup and create a history of files, you first need to set up the file history drive and enable “file history”. For information on setting up a drive, see Setting up a file history drive.

Steps to enable “File History 

1. Open “File History by: swiping from the right edge of the screen to the middle, click "Search ” (If you use the mouse, point to the upper right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, click “search”), type “file history” in the search box, and then click or click “Settings> and “File History”.

2. Click or click “Enable”.

Steps to restore files

1.Restore files by swiping from the right edge of the screen to the middle and clicking "Search" (If you use the mouse, point to the top right of the screen Corner, then move the pointer down, click “search”), enter the restore file in the search box, and then click or click “Set” and “Restore your file via file history&rdquo ;

2. Enter the specific file you want to find in the search box, or use the left and right arrows to navigate through folders and files.

3. Select the file you want to restore to its original location and click or click the  quo;Restore” button.

If you want to restore the file to a location other than the original location, long press or right-click the "Restore" button, click or click "Restore to" and select the new location.

Note: You can also restore a version of a file in File Explorer. Open the File Explorer by swiping from the right edge of the screen to the middle (if you use the mouse, point to the top right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down), and then tap or click "Search”. Type <;File Explorer> in the search box, click or click "Apply", and then tap or click &#quo;File Explorer”. Search or browse to the file you want to restore, then tap or click the file to highlight it. In the “Open” group, click or click the “History” button and restore your files or folders.
