Win8 Tips for Installing USB3.0 and USB Devices

USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices are one of the easiest devices to connect to a computer. You can connect to a wide variety of devices such as keyboards, printers and external drives. If you are installing a USB 3.0 device, there may be a blue cable for the device. You may also see a blue label in the connector on one end of the cable and in the port on your computer or USB hub. Regardless of the color of the cable and port, there will be a USB 3.0 symbol on all USB 3.0 cables and ports.

Connecting a USB device

Steps for installing a USB device

1. If your device has a power cord, insert it.

2. Connect the device to your computer using a separate cable or cord attached to the device.

Make sure you are using a USB 3.0 port for your USB 3.0 device. If you don't have a USB 3.0 port, you can use the most convenient available port.

3. Open your device and wait for Windows to find and install the appropriate driver.

4. After the installation is complete, check the information that came with the device to see if you need to install additional software.

Note: If an earlier USB device is not working properly when it is plugged into a USB 3.0 port, try connecting it to a USB 2.0 port.

Disconnecting USB Devices

Most USB devices can be unplugged directly, such as a keyboard or mouse. However, before you unplug a storage device (such as a USB drive), make sure you have saved the file to the drive before you can remove it. We also recommend that you eject the drive to ensure that all activity on the drive is complete.

Steps to eject the drive

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, click “Set”, and then click “Change PC Settings”.

(If using the mouse, point to the top right corner of the screen, then move the pointer down, click “Set”, then click “Change PC Settings 

2. Click or click <;Device”.

3. Click or click the device you want to pop up, “delete” icon and “delete”.
