Windows 8.1 hard disk installation Ubuntu14.04 dual system reference tutorial and multi-hard disk considerations

Hard disk installation, no need for CD, U disk; Win8.1-based, Ubuntu14.04 as a supplement, Windows or Ubuntu can be set as the boot default startup item; under Ubuntu can view and operate the files under Windows system; Install Ubuntu system similar to version 14.04. If the above is exactly what you need, then this might be a tutorial worthy of reference. However, I suggest that you read through this article first and then make a decision.

The method described in this article, personal test is correct, if you have any loss caused by this article, I can not be responsible, please be careful!

Preparation conditions
A healthy Win7 or Win8.1 operating system; Ubuntu official system image file; backup for important files in the Windows system disk; some understanding of Linux partition mounting; EasyBCD software; you have read this article;

Step 1

Under Windows operating system, empty a hard disk partition or split a new partition from an existing partition. Ubuntu will be installed in this partition. You can use some well-known disk tool software (Partition Assistant, DiskGenius, etc.) to split the new zone.

Example:

As shown in the above figure, the C drive is the system disk of Win8.1, and the E drive is the new partition I split from the original C drive. (When using the tool for segmentation, you can not use the split space as a new partition, because we are getting a piece of unused space).

Step 2

After you have identified a blank partition, delete the partition so that it is not visible in Windows Explorer.

You can right-click on the "This computer" icon to enter the "Manage" & rdquo; function "Disk Management" interface, select the blank partition, right click "delete volume".

The above figure is the disk status before the operation of the E disk is deleted.

The following figure shows the disk status after the operation of the E disk; delete the volume":

Now, under the Windows operating system, the original E disk has Not visible and not available. Only the C drive is left in the resource manager:

Step 3

Install the EasyBCD software under the Windows operating system. After the installation is successful, open the software and display the language selection “Simplified Chinese”.

Select “Add new entry> in the left tool list, select the “NeoGrub” tab in the upper right corner of the right ribbon, and click the “Install" button. As shown below:

After installation, click the “Configure” button to open a Notepad file named “menu.lst”. Empty the contents of the file and write the following text:

title Install Ububtu

root (hd0,0)

kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz.efi boot=casper Iso-scan/filename=/ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso ro quiet splash locale=zh_CN.UTF-8

initrd (hd0,0)/initrd.lz

As shown, note the space:

Note 1: The occurrence of the second, third, and fourth lines of the file "(hd0,0)” points to the location of the current system disk, I Here is the C drive. But if the C drive is not the first partition, but the second one, it needs to be changed to “(hd0,1)”, and so on.

Note 2: The third line of the file, “ubuntu-14.04-desktop-amd64.iso” is the file name of my Ubuntu system image, modify it to yours.

Note 3: The third line of the file appears "vmlinuz.efi", since the Ubuntu I installed is a 64-bit operating system, it must be "vmlinuz.efi", and the extension cannot be missing.

Step 4

Open the Ubuntu image file using the compression tool, and the “initrd.lz” and “vmlinuz.efi” files in the “.disk” folder and casper folder Copy to the root directory of the C drive, and then copy the Ubuntu system image file to the root directory of the C drive:

Step 5

Restart the computer and see the operating system on the boot screen. Select, select “NeoGrub boot loader>:

After the Ubuntu selection interface appears, select “Install Ubuntu”.

Note: There may be "File not found" error here:

The reason is generally in the previous <;menu.lst&rdquo The parameters in the file are not configured, but you do not need to restart the computer to set up, because the startup interface has given us the method of temporarily modifying the parameters:

Still select “InstallUbuntu”, press the keyboard e enter the modification interface:

Modify the three places in the above picture ((hd0,0)”, the previous 0 represents the first few hard disks, “0” Represents the first block; the following 0 represents the first partition in a hard disk. The modification method here has also been given, the keyboard e is modified, the keyboard d is deleted, the keyboard b is confirmed and started:

Note: When installing Win7 and Win8 systems, the system will be in the system by default. Create a system-specific partition of several hundred megabytes before the disk, so if the C drive is a system drive, the parameters here are generally “hd(0,1)”

Step 6

After successfully entering the Ubuntu trial interface, there are two files on the desktop.

Press Ctrl+Alt+T to open the terminal and type “sudo umount –l /isodevice” to cancel the CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, the progress of the card may be in progress during the subsequent installation:

Note: Note the spaces, and “l” in “-l” is a lowercase form of capital letters <;L”. Not the number 1, nor the letter <;

Step 7

Double-click the desktop icon “ Install Ubuntu14.04 LTS” to start installing Ubuntu.

If you are connected to the network, you can choose to download the update during installation, which will extend the installation time, or you can download and install the update after installing the Ubuntu system.

There are several installation options in the "Installation Type" interface:

If you choose the first item, Ubuntu will automatically install the partition, and then operate with Windows. The system coexists as a dual system. Users who do not have detailed requirements for the partition can select this item. This tutorial can skip steps Step7 and Step8 directly. If you want to customize the partition, select “other options”. Here, I choose “other options”.

The figure below shows the partition status of our entire hard disk:

We want to install Ubuntu in the "Idle" section. Select “Idle” partition, then click the plus sign at the bottom left red line to partition.

About Linux partition mounting, many Windows users with a fixed mind are still crawling hard on the road of understanding, partition is not the focus of this article, this matter should read the professional article on Linux partition.

The root directory “/” is a must exist and can be divided into 8G to “/”.

Swap partition swap does not have to exist, you can not allocate space, which also means that you can give all space to “ /& rdquo;.
