Microsoft canceled the Start menu in Windows 8 operating system functions, this change the traditional move caused a lot of user complaints. According to foreign media reports, after the "father of Windows 8" Steven · Xinnowski left, Microsoft has begun to discuss whether to restore the Windows 8 start menu.

Sinowski once persuaded Ballmer to remove the Windows 8 start menu. To this end, he also specifically wrote at the Microsoft Build Developer Conference after the release of Windows 8 to explain why this is done. In his view, replacing the traditional start menu with a touch-and-touch interface that can be controlled by a mouse and keyboard is the key to the user experience of the new Windows 8 system as well as the Surface and WP8 phones.

However, Sinowski has probably won the internal debates within Microsoft, but corporate and individual users do not recognize it. There are already third-party applications that have re-appeared in the Windows 8 start menu and are very popular. From this point it can be seen that the user is positive about the Windows Start menu. In addition, corporate users' interest in Windows 8 does not seem to be very large, at least for now.

For various reasons, Ballmer is likely to have to reconsider Sinnovsky’s original proposal. Even if the user’s call for the start menu is high and Windows 8 sales are less than expected, Microsoft may return the Start menu back to Windows 8 in the form of a patch pack in the future.
